Engine problem: in need of diagnosis

So I just got my evo 3 weeks ago and I already $%*#(@ broke it! GOD D(*&^&*, can fu(*&&^n believe it.

Drove it to my friend's apartment. Stayed over night, and then started her the next morning. I'm trying to remember but I don't think I really let her warm up and it was kind of chilly.

Point is I pull out of a parallel spot, and mosy on down the street about 50 feet. Stop at a stop sign, go in first to about 3k nice and easy, then shift to second and the BOOM, loud noise (don't remember how it sounded) and then all I can describe is that my car sound like the LAWN MOWER FROM HELL.

I immediately put it in neutral at which point the RPMs dropped to its normal idle of 1k but the car was shaking bad, and the boost gauge kindy jumping around in the vacuum area. After like a second I realized that s**t was really going down so I killed the engine and had it towed back to my house. I had one of my friends start it while I looked at the engine. For the ten seconds it was on the top end was flexing and bouncing up and down. The valve cover is cracked and was bouncing up and down violently. My guess is the the exhaust isn't leaving the cylinder the way it should.

Does anyone know what this could be. I'm guessing/hoping its a cracked or chipped cam, and not something more serious like a broken rod. Any advice woould be sweet as I still have not decided on where to take it.

BTW It's heavile modded. All the normal goodies, plus Meth INjection and upgraded turbo. It was tuned by Buschur (tune is sweet, it idles like a kitten evo with the 272 cams, im not knocking the tune, just bragging).

This is why I don't like buying modded cars. I hope you get this fixed

Take off your valvecover and look...I'm guessing something with the valvetrain went, or something in the block decided to go to ****....

Do you have some type of spark advance? Like the HKS DLII or whatever is it. I bought my evo heavily modded and it had it on there... And one day it went out and AMS said this was common for this HKS product and they said to just unplug it and rearrange the spark plugs... after that, my engine was normal again. The other half turned back on... This might be it because my Evo running on two cylinders sounded like my old go-cart, lol.

Sounds like you should take it to www.dyno4mance.com or www.topspeedsales.com they will know their way around a modded evo and will be alot better than taking it to the dealer because it sounds like you have some major damage

just sounds like a hose came off.....if you were under the hood lookin, i assume you would of notice the TB hose if it was off or lose, so its probably one of the LICP by the intercooler....take a look at them, take off the undertray if you have to to take a close look...that would def cause idle to be bad with issue with boost gage...

What makes yal think it is a IC hose. In his post he said that he shifted to 2nd at 3k rpm easy and then something let go. Also he said his valve cover is cracked and violenty bouncing up and down. Its a long shot but he could of broke a cam.

Yeah. That sounds like it could be that. Lots of vibration and popping sound.

If the valve cover is cracked then it is a little more serious than a hose coming off. It might be more than one problem

just do what I said before....take off your vavle cover and look at your head...i'm sure you'll find the problem if the valve cover is going up and down violently.
