used the cometic gasket on my sr20 240sx. Lasted for 3k miles then pushed coolant, running about 20psi on GT2540R (~400ish whp). Apex-i headgasket is very nice too, if they make it for SR's

Cometic on my VW... leaked everything

That Cosworth head gasket looks nice

I feel that surface prep determains how well things will seal.

I would like to see the Power Enterprises head gasket tested also. Then all the major gaskets would have been tested. I believe the film is $57 a foot which i would be willing to help pay for whatever to get this one tested. Since its the only headgasket along with Cometic it leaves the guys with a 87mm bore not many options.

Felpro makes a nice gasket for the DSM. Anyone used it on the Evo yet?

Was the OEM tested a VIII or an XI headgasket?

Remember, the VIII is a 3-layer and the XI is a 5-Layer headgasket.

I bought an OEM XI for my VIII instead of getting a Cometic because of the 5-Layer Design.

It was a IX gasket (5 layer). I just confirmed with Eric.

He tested the VIII gasket (3 layer) too and said it was ever so slightly lighter than the IX in between cylinders.

more layers is not necesarly better. thicker head gaskets could cause problems by adversely changing the geometry of the head-block interface on the intake manifold , this is on Vee-type engine though.
But for out inline engines it could also subtly alter cam timing. but worst of all it could degrade the squish effect in the combustion chamber which can be greater pro-knock factor!!
your best bet is to o-ring they cylinders by machining a shallow groove into the fire-ring area of the block or head around each cylinder bore then installing gapless machined-steel rings or steel wire into the groove.

The Cometic sucks I've said it for years, the FelPro sucks just as bad, maybe even worse than the Cometic. You don't see those on our website do you?

Eric Hsu is a good guy, known him a long time. Well respected guy.

We use the stock 3 layer EVO8 gasket, 50+ psi of boost, no problems.
