uni - there is nothing that pertains to my comprehension and reading skills that I have to work on. I asked a simple question, and got a smartass reply. If I wanted sarcasm, I would be hanging out in the off topic forum... Like I said, I don't want/need a boost controller, all I wanted to know was how many restrictors there are and where they are located.

Its cool, just relax, we are all brothers here. Listen, very simple mod, really, just pull off your air box, the stock BCS is right there, you have 2 lines running to it. Pull of the line closer to you (be carful, it is glued, I had to cut it) and if you are not sure just squeeze the line until you feel the fitting, it is that simple. Get a wood screw, screw it in, pull it out, hook everything back up.

I tried boosting my car and it jerked a little and then hisitated. Believe it or not this is normal, as you get boost quicker and more of a THWACK of boost then a nice roll on, the ECU isn't prepared, but it learns quite easy.

I spun all 4 wheels for a second on a launch after this mod, more power for sure.

Thanks for the reply... I actually took that restrictor out and i'm seeing 21.2 psi in 3-5th gears peak and then it settles to about 18 psi. With an 8.8:1 compression motor, i'm not so sure that 93 octane gas is enough to be running that kind of boost in the Houston, TX heat. Any thoughts?

DUre, it is fine, as your car is stock other wise, you car is still very fat, and avoiding detonation the best it can. 21 PSI is not that much.

If you are really worried, get some touline, and mix it in your tank.

I am now hitting 22 sometimes with it drilled out to 5/64, since I put the catback on. May have to go back to stock size again soon if I go with Xede or get a MBC.

An excerpt from Vishnu's site pertaining to the restrictor when installing an Xede: "The brass restrictor pill in the boost line just before the factory boost control solenoid must be removed.".

That doesnt make any sense at all. There could be two assumptions from this little restrictor.
1. This creates a hole in the boost (bubble) , i.e. a small hole in a baloon, the more air you put it, the hole will only let you put so much.
2. This is prohibiting air flow, taking out the brass piece will make it free flow, same concept as our exhuasts?
Which could it be, what other possibilities could it be?

I was reading on Vishnus website and shiv says that with the purchase of the XEDE you need to remove this restrictor. Now I certainly don't have an XEDE (yet) but if he says to remove it I would imagine it would be safe am I wrong? I am going to attempt this today for sure. Free power!

That is correct. The XEDE controls the factory boost solenoid directly. As such, the XEDE's duty cycle tables take into account the removal of the pill. FWIW, the factory duty cycles are close to 100%. With the XEDE (and pill removal), we bring them down to 85-90%. If we didn't, we'd get one heck of a boost spike in the midrange. So no, it is not advisable to removal that pill unless the associated boost table, spark timing and fuel mapping accounts for it.

My 2c,
Shiv

I took mine out yesterday and really noticed the difference. My stock boost never seemed to go over 17.5 PSI and would drop down to 16. Now I get a 19-20 PSI initial boost and then it holds at 17-18. The car feels much stronger across the band. I was told it is good for about 15 WHP.

Quick question - what's the I.D. of the hose that the pill comes out of?

Cos presumably if you just wanted to test the effect of removal, it'd be easier to substitute a plain hose for the one with the pill in it? Then you could also switch back pretty easy too. Unless I'm missing something totally obvious. Thanks!
