Help Needed with 2.1L

I usually don't post a lot, but I do read a lot on this site and thank everyone for their wealth of knowledge. So with that in mind, maybe someone will read this and have an educated answer for me. I currently run a 2.1L destroked 4g64. The problem that I have is that I had the head removed to get it ported and when the head came off, the Cometic head gasket had failed and some oil had gotten into the pistons. Needless to say that has already been corrected and everything is ready to be reassembled. My problem lies in the head gasket. I don't want to use a Cometic one, so it was suggested that I use a copper one. However, after talking to several engine builders I was adviced to stay away from the copper one since eventually I would get external coolant sippage, specially on a street car. For those of you that have 2.1's and are running the Evo Head, what kind of head gasket are you running? I has thinking of going with the stock Evo 8 head gasket and finding a hole punch press that would punch the coolant holes required for the 4g64. Has anyone tried this and has it worked reliably? Any positive input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Call AMS in chicago, I think they have a custom head gasket for the 4g64.

Also, did you check out Cosworth? They may have something, as well.

Good luck.

Im running a cometic on my 2.4 with no problems. I bet you problem was from not torquing the head down correctly or not to spec.

Magnus Motorsports builds a variety of motors on the 4g64 block. You might check with them for suggestions. Jkav started a thread recently on some pressure testing of various head gaskets that might also be worth reading. Felpro makes a highly regarded head gasket in the $150-170 range that you might look into as well.
