Problem

I have a 2005 Lancer Evo 8. It was 40 degrees or so outside this morning and I went to start my car. It turns over a few times then a grinding sound happened. I had my brother try to start the car while I look under the hood and I see that the smaller thinner serpentine belt is turning and the belt thats going to my cam gears isn't moving. (sorry about the ignorant use of words) It kind of ticks back and fourth. I stopped him right away. What could it be?

If you look where the cam belt is on the crank you will probably find some teeth missing on the belt.

sounds like your timing belt is slipping on the crank....

alright thanks, yeah, it sounds like that is the problem, its the stock belt and i've got hks 280s on there so the lift of those cams might have done that, especially in the cold weather.

Correction; There was a hole in my oil pan syphon tube's screen, a piece of metal from the engine went through it, into my oil pump and mangled the $200 case and oil pump. That seized everything up, cracked my oil pump sprocket, and tore the timing belt up. Thank God it was just cranking over and not at full boost ha.
