actually most do know how close it is, and if your that worried about it why did you even ask?

I just finished wrapping mine last night... I did the exact same thing....I got thermo wrap 2 x 50 and kinda just took it and wraped it around the DP to see how much I need as a estimate and once you get to the end of the DP make sure you wrap it 8 extra times (this is just incase you don't come up short on your DP when wrapping it) and the kinda just soaked it in bucket of water to soften it up enough to get a tight wrap.. and when done...let it sit in the sun for about a day to harden up and when its dry spray it with DEI silicone spray....I used about 2 can and let it dry over night and it was good to go....I'm at work but I plan to post pics up when i get home. It looks great!

Some folks don't seem to recognize that this isn't about increasing performance but about keeping heat disipation and transfer down on surrounding components--ie trans case and oil pan. IMO ceramic coating is best...but I wrapped my down pipe. If you think this isnt an issue, think about exhaust temps over 1000 degrees f, which I see easily everyday on that DP and then think about how much heat is transferred to the trans case and oil pan an 1" away.. worth it , yes.

I def. think wrap is the best way to go. I had it done before to my evo but i got into a accident and smacked the downpipe. So that is why I decided to do it again. As far as keep the heat insulated...I think it works great. I have been able to grab the downpipe after driving it around and putting it on a lift and doesn't burn my hand...I think it does a great job insulating heat away from everything else if done right!

I say go for it if you have the wrap laying around, but in the end thermal coating or jet hot coating is the way to go!

I have the 3" Perrin downpipe BTW
EvoJedi77 has said it best. I have had my HKS DP wrapped for quite a while and recently took it off to get my o2 bung welded in and have not had any problems and the wrap looked fine, more importantly it helps to give you more power via better flow of higher egt's

my qtp dp is wrapped been for awhile now. no complaints. rain or shine the wrap is holding well and isnt storing water or unravelling. i figure the more you can isolate heat radiation to other parts the better off you are. just my 2 cents though.

Thanks for the idea. I'm going to wrap my DC sports dp.
I was trying to figure out how to reduce my noise without killing performance.

If anything I think it might be better to spray your manifold then to wrap it...

To wrap my downpipe it took about 45 minutes...Now money wise...you may be right...I spend about $7 on the claps, $35 on the wrap, and $20 on the 2 cans of DEI silicone spray...Maybe your right bout cost wise but I thought we we're discussing which would do the job better?...but I guess they go hand and hand since it might not be a huge difference between wrap and spray.

Looks like the OP is back to square one. This is going to be user specific all day. I guess my vote is bareback because it feels better

I posted another thread in the Newbie section, but I figured I'd post it up here also. How about powdercoating (non-ceramic coating)? Will that even help?
