Is this normal?

when i put it in 1st it has a little play from left to right. it has a little play in every gear. Does anyone else have that problem?

My buddy's evo has the same play. Even my Lancer does. I don't believe that it's a real issue.

Cable Shifted transmission, totally normal.

Even direct input trasnmissions, it's normal to have some play in the transmission. actually it's the only way people can operate them. If tehre wasn't some free play you wouldn't e able to get it in a gear and would most likely be stuck in neutral trying to line up the gates perfectly to get into gear. Cables might add a little more variance to the shifter movement, but usually the movement is designed into the actual transmissions shift, gates, forks, and such.

Go row throw an 80s Ferrari's gates and see how much of a PITA too little play is.
