Should I just resurface my stock flywheel?

I orderd a new ACT HDSS clutch & a used (2K miles) ACT Streetlite flywheel for my evo. USPS lost the flywheel. I got a box full of newspaper & a huge rip down the side of the box. The box was beat to sh*t & USPS won't do anything about it. So I took my loss & went ahead & orderd a new ACT Streetlite flywheel & got a message today that it is out of stock at that particular place till end of the month. The question is should I try again or just resurface the stock flywheel? I was going for the Streetlite cause it is a little lighter, but gives good drivability. Can anyone tell me if I'm just waisting time & money or if I should just resurface the stocker & get back on the road? I f it makes a diffrence the car is a full bolt on stock turbo IX with cams & no meth. Thanx

If the flywheel is not discolored on the backside of the unit, normally you can resurface and be just fine. The stock unit is pretty good for DD's

Sounds like I will resurface the stocker. That's what I was going to do in the first place, so now we're back to square 1. I just wanted to make sure there were no reasons why I shouldn't use the stock flywheel.

ACT flywheels are chrome-moly steel, not aluminum.

To the OP. As long as it was not warped badly to the point that you'd have to remove a lot of material to make it flat again I would just have it resurfaced a your local machine shop.

We make forged chrome-moly steel flywheels, not aluminum ones .

Thanks for choosing ACT and sorry to hear about your difficulties in getting our Streetlite flywheel but we are currently on back order on these until the end of the month. As others have stated, if the flywheel has enough material on it you should still be able to resurface it and use it again.

Contary to popular belief the heat marks on the flywheel will not affect performace since the disc cannot tell if there are heat marks or not. What will make a difference is if the surface is not flat, because it will limit the contact surface between the disc and the flywheel.

If you are still interested in getting the Streetlite flywheel please give our sales/tech dept. a call in the morning at 661-940-7555 (we open @ 7:45 PST) and we may be able to help you find a Streetlite flywheel at one of our dealers. Thanks again.

How much is enough material? (what is the specified minimum thisckness)?

Th car has 18K miles on it & I stopped driving it once the slipping started. I was driving it hard when it did start slipping & it did start slipping pretty bad before I parked it. the car will drive fine when not in boost. I don't think I over did it, so I'll just have to pull it apart & see.
