Axle seal nightmare...

Anyone have any suggestions for an axle seal that is leaking. We reinstalled another seal and the leak is still there. I believe that the t-case may be slightly overfilled and im unsure if that would cause it to leak. Are there any tips for installing the seal to make sure it will not leak?

The axle may have a wear mark from the seal. Fix is a new axle.

Did you see if there was a wear ring there from the last seal.
Did you lightly sand the axle before reinstalling it too remove any imperfections.
Is it marred in any way.

didnt really check but ill pop it back out this weekend and check. Ill try the sanding method see if that fixes the issue. There wasnt an issue till it was reinstalled after an engine install before that it worked perfect. We had also had the t-case serviced by a local company as well.... I assume that the seal that just went it will be fubar since its been on the old surface....

This may sound really simple, but make sure the axle is pushed in all the way. I mean ALL the way. You could swear it's seated but by pushing it in a little bit more it will seal. It happened to me when i swapped my clutch.

Use a good fine grit. Around 900-1000. You dont want more scratches.

yeah just seems odd that it would be the axle when it was fine prior to it coming out.... But the car did have a big blow up sending pieces of rod out the front and rear. I didnt see any marks on the axle that would indicate that it was struck by stuff flying but i guess its always possible....

Yea man the one that leaked in my Teg was actually a aftermarket replacement cause the OEM was going. Put it in and next oil change I noticed the leak.

At that point I pulled the damn thing out thinking I damaged the seal. I checked out the axle and didnt see anything on the shaft so 2 seals later I replaced the axle and what do you know. No more leak

wish you could just buy the cup.... as the axle is pretty expensive and there is nothing wrong with it. Ill try the sanding method first and pray that solves it. This isnt even on my car its a friends im just trying to sort it out..... Sucks to get done installing an engine and barely be able to drive the car over a leaky axle lol

Should post pics Zach, that might help people to determine the cause. And you need to fix it quick, make a road trip out here.

Make sure you match the new axle against the old axle. I burned up a tranny on my 93 Integra GSR because I got teh wrong part. It seemed like it fit, but the shaft wasn't long enough to make the seal.
