new cosworth cams? cleaning?
I just got my cams and I been slowly installing them. I pulled the cams out of the packages and they seem to have a residue, kind of sticky to them.. Probably from the grinding process..
Anyways, did anyone clean them before installing them? If so, what did you use? soap and water?

often times cams have a residue on them for shipping to protect them from corrosion. i think it is an oil of some type that some times dries up. i always wash the cams off in brake cleaner/gasoline/soap or whatever can take the substance off. then i reapply a fresh coat of motor oil to the cam after it is cleaned with a rag.

ya residue is similar to the ones used on brake rotors to prevent them from rusting , just use rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth and wipe them clean and dry , then put a light coating of oil on them before puttin them in.
