Car seems like it will stall when pumping gas

Hey guys when I pump gas on my evo and leave it on it seems like it is about to stall? Anyone else have this problem. Or is it just the fuel pump recieving more fuel causing the computer to compensate?

Re: Car seems like it will stall when pumping gas

I had the same thing, it starts off okay but in about 10-20 seconds it start to go crazy. Now I just turn it off. I think it's a OBDII deal but am not 100% sure.

Very bad. You may have a CEL soon. I believe it's the OBDII system that does NOT like an open fuel tank or any openings in the fuel system.

they need to make the dealers screen the people that they sell evos to or atleast make them take a test. Some people should just ride a horse to work. IF the horse craps clean it up. Feed him 2 times a day. No need to worry about complicated things such as turning the car off while gasing it.

Same goes for the Lancer or any OBDII car as far as I'm aware. My salesperson (who was extremely nice might I add) even let me know on the first fillup...well $5 of free gas courtesy of the dealership anyway.

Can we please keep the responses civil?

It is people like you that warrent these signs

I think that's more of a safety issue with the gas station signs, however Hobie is correct that if you drive with the gas cap open it will cause a cel.

Just close the cap though and everythings back to normal.

I fill up with the TT counting down and have never encountered this stalling yet. It could be because the engine isn't running for more than a 30 seconds though.

Hey I pump with the car on. Thats one way of avoiding turbo cooling.

My car also sounds like its gonna die when at the pump.
But...I've seen the rpm's when it seems like its gonna stall....and its still maintaining around 900rpm.

check your rpm's next time.

nobody answered my question

what could happen if you dont turn it off while fueling

Will something happen to the car or is it something about safety?
