which front LSD? - Cusco, kaaz, Carbonetics
for a 80/20 track road car running with RS rear diff.
Interested in comments re ability to put power down, noise (clunking etc), reliability and feel.
Looking at Kaaz, Cusco, Carbonetics and quaife.....and others Ive missed?

I have the Kaaz front and center LSD but yet to install them. I broke 3 different stock type front diffs so far. An open one, helical, and then a Ralliart LSD. I'm hoping the Kaaz will be stronger. Unfortunately I've been told the car will want to understeer with the Kaaz center diff. But playing around with clutch plates in the rear and center and front might be able to counteract things.
I run an Evo 6 as well as you. Quaife do not make a diff for direct fitment to Evo 6 transfer case, but Shep has told me he can machine the Quaife to fit in our transfer cases.
Sorry I can't give you an opinon on the Kaaz yet. I plan to install in a couple weeks.

i heard that running the kaaz centre will cause understeer on tarmac (although would be good on gravel). You can run the kaaz front without the kaaz center but having an open diff sounds very odd to me.
The Ralliart plated front and uprated viscous diff sounds ideal but it isnt cheap....$3000 or so <gulp>
I also hear the cusco can run with the standard viscous center but I havent heard from anyone running big power if its strong enough yet.
please reply back when you have your diffs fitted.

I've been using OS Giken diffs on several other cars (350z, 240sx) here, but have not tried the EVO yet. I've heard from the customers that have the OSG diffs that they are more solid then the Cusco diffs, and have a more progressive locking instead of an on/off feeling.

I'm running the Kaaz center and front diffs now. Install went well but if you do it I recommend you order some replacement roller bearings for the rear diff so you don't need to fuss with getting them off cleanly for re-use.
I went through the break-in driving figure eights in a parking lot for 30 minutes. I was so close to vomiting when done. Ugggh.
I did not use the Kaaz gear oil which came with the diffs. I'm using Redline 75-90 which has the additive you need for plated LSD.
Anyway they've been in the car for almost a month now. They run well and the only issue is that on very tight (like > 70% sterring angle) 1st gear turn, you hear either clunking or tire skidding. I've been told by several knowledgeable people this is normal. Spirited driving it would not happen unless some super tight 5 mpg hairpin.
Now as for the driving, I have to admit you will almost never see me sideways. Only like one or two turns around my neighborhood when I'm feeling frisky. So I don't really drive my car to the limit. But my impression is that the grip level seems to be improved. As for understeer, I've not noticed it but again I'm very rarely approaching grip limits.
The reason I went to Kaaz is because I've cracked THREE stock front diffs. Helical and open.
I haven't been to the track yet with the Kaaz. I will post back an update once gone to the track a few times and let you guys know if the Kaaz did not break.
I'm on 2.4 with HTA 35R and Autronic. 10.9 best ET with 1.9 60 ft and easy shifting on street tires.

That's awesome to hear.... I was looking through the specs on the different ones...
For some reason I really want to do a 2 way in the rear... haha *purr* sideways evo *purr*... but I don't believe that KAAZ makes a 2 way for the EVO... the only one that I have seen for the rear is Cusco :*(

I would have gone Quaife but they don't make one for Evo 6.
Shep will machine it to fit though which is what my friend with Evo 6 is doing right now. But I opted for the Kaaz as it is direct fit and I heard they are pretty tough unit.

I have Cusco RS 1.5way front and 2way rear in my rally car. I'm running Redline Heavy Shockproof in them to cause as much lockup as possible. I only use the car on dirt, but I can tell you the setup locks quickly and aggressively, which is exactly what I was going for. On pavement you can feel the diffs binding up a bit, and I'm sure a less aggressive oil would help with that.

Hey, have you had your car down at CARZ performance in Lakewood?? If so, I've seen it there... I think that the 2 way would be nice considering I enjoy sliding so much, but what do you think? 1.5 way for street and track maybe?

I'm not too sure what to recommend for street use, as I've never really driven mine on pavement. If you get the 2way, the car will certainly handle differently.
I opted for my setup b/c I wanted it to lock under decel to where it would help the car rotate on corner entry (rear locks more than the front). If you're keeping the stock front diff, a 1.5way rear might get you what you're looking for.
The good news is that on the Cusco RS diffs, it is the same diff, you just choose which way to insert the pin when you go to install it, which will change it from a 1.5way to a 2way.
