Clutch Clutch Clutch
Ok i have been searching for what clutch to get for about a week now and every one have there own opinion so i have no idea. At first i wanted to get the exedy twin buut im really hurtin for money right now and i think the ACT street disc will do just fine. well when i searched it i got a lot of bad and good reviews so i dont know now what to do. I read a lot about lock out at high rpms and some people say they love the ACT...
My car made 364hp and 346tq....my stock boost controller was maxed and ****in everything up so i bought the AMS mbc... so im hoping almost 400hp when i get it re tuned n the boost up.
The clutch that is going out in my car is the exedy stage 1.. the clutch seemed like it was a good clutch i went to the track n ran low 12s b4 cams...but i think im over powering that clutch now.
What clutch should i get????

I have heard a lot of good things about the Exedy Twin Disc. I know a couple evo owners running that clutch on their car and having zero problems. The clutch pedal also feels like stock. There are also people running the ACT clutches with zero problems too. Both are great clutches. If you have the money go Exedy, but if you are tight on money go with ACT. Just my .02.
The exedy stage 1 is not much more than a stock clutch.. the act HDSS is fine for 400whp.. I have put them in many cars making 350-450whp without an issue at all.. the exedy will allow you to shift at high rpm a little easier but the price is the major drawback..
Lol, im in the same boat you are! My buddy has an evo thats 350whp with exedy twin disc, problem free. Not one since he has put the clutch in. Ive driven his car and its just a tiny different then stock which is def. a plus...Although money for me is a problem to so I am getting ACT 6 puck next week. I have read very good reviews about the 6puck so im not to worried...but if you want to be 100% sure the clutch will meet all your requirments, i would go with the exedy twin. Because you dont want to be getting an ACT and not being happy with it...waste of money IMO...
EDIT: My buddy also told me to add this. He said that everytime you race, since its twin disc it just warms up the clutch and grips better and better everytime and your launches get better and better...As for other clutches its good in the beginning, but not as after that...

I am in the same boat. AMS is installing a HTA3076r turbo kit next week and they are recommending the Exedy twin HD. Eric told me the ACT would NOT hold the power.
I had a ACT hdss on my last evo. felt just like the stock clutch so this time I am going with he Exedy HD twin

Yeah i think i might just spend the extra money and do it right and get it over with... I guess the only good thing is im gettin sum sweet gas mileage cuz i cant build a pound of boost without the clutch slippin

I have an ACT HD-SS. Its 'ok.' I came from the muscle car world and am totally used to stiff clutches, so its something I don't mind, but after this weekend, I drove my friend's RS w/ a RPS Single (a couple hundred more than the ACT I think) and it was a DREAM in comparison to the ACT.
I will certainly be replacing my ACT w/ a RPS when it goes.

So the only clutch that is good for the evo is the exedy twin..thats kinda dumb since that clutch is 3 times as much as most of the other clutchs... What is everyone running for clutchs..i dont think EVERYONE out there is using this clutch that has a modded evo....
The ACT is outa the question for me i have heard way to much about that clutch suckin..

ACT doesnt SUCK at all but compared to exedy its not as good a clutch.. once again it goes back to you get what you pay for.. one is 500 and one is 1500.00.. you want the best clutch there is around its 4400.00.. comes down to what do you want to spend??
Ive had the exedy twin installed for about 1000 miles now. Pedal pressure is slightly stiffer... but once you are used to it it feels great.
No issues yet. I highly recommend it.
