Where's that elusive Ebay cone filter?

My stock air filter is on the way out.

I'm looking for the cone air filter everyone talks about on Ebay. Can someone point me to the correct one?

I think this one is it:

http://tinyurl.com/3psyat

Looks exactly the same as some offered by major retailers, but:

-It does not have the same black gasket (?) as the other filter, but it does have the chrome colored adapter plate.

-I can't find this filter currently on Ebay

-It still costs $40.

Where are the cheap EVO filters on ebay? Here is what I have found thus far:

-Red, rewashable, oiled generic filter w/ no adapter plate:
http://tinyurl.com/5yg4v7

-Blue, rewashable, but no mention of oil w/ adapter plate:
http://tinyurl.com/3khyvo

If u search for "eclipse air filter" u get the same filters.....

Little help on which one to get? thx.

(p.s. when I asked a retailed about cleaning these filters they said they just replace as needed as they are cheap enough. *shrugs*)

If you are otherwise stock, just get a K&N drop in. A cone filter should be custom tuned for multiple reasons (MAF scaling, AFR's, etc)

Drop-in $70: http://www.amazon.com/K-N-33-2105-Re...8074483&sr=8-1

If you must have a cone, get the Vibrant MAF Adapter and a K&N Cone.

MAF Adapter $20: http://evomoto.com/product_info.php?...92a1872b9f7acf

Cone $40: http://www.amazon.com/K-N-RF-1005-Un...8074274&sr=8-1

Can you please explain why the cone filter needs custom tuning versus the drop in filter? Also how much hp and torque difference is there between the two filters? On my DSM opening up the can created a cone filter and I only remember it making more power and not needing any tuning?

The MAF depends on a known pattern of airflow, and if you change the container/shape of the intake, it alters that pattern. A drop in just allows more airflow in the same pattern as stock.

The MAF should be scaled for proper closed-loop operation and cold starts. This winter, I reset my MAF scale to stock to see the difference and my car wouldn't even idle, it would try and then stall (cold car & cold weather, & improper MAF scale).

Also, without scaling the MAF your gas mileage will suffer and fuel trims will be way off. It's not the most dangerous thing in the world, but in my opinion it's silly to put a cone on without tuning it.

ok thanks thats why the DSM didn't need because it already was using a cone filter inside the can. Any differences between the cone and drop in as far as power goes I know the cone will be louder.

Thank u everyone for chiming in. I am aware of possibly having MAF scaling trouble w/ the cone filer. I am willing to tune for it. The filters I posted have an inverted cone on the tip of the filter vs. the stock K & N. I figure that would give even more surface area to breath more air and I've read in numerous posts it helps to 'smooth' the air as it is brought in, thus less idling trouble. Is this correct?

The cone filter with maf adapter sold by username streettunedperformance is a very nice peice.

Vibrant air filter
Vibrant maf adapter

From looking at it in person and comparing it to buschurs filter, it is the same. Also AMS uses the same vibrant maf adapter, only they use K&N filters.

The filter is dry flow and does not need oiling after washing. If you want you can purchase a new filter for 22 dollars from their website instead of washing and reusing www.streettunedmotorsports.com.

I have bought a few things from them, they ship quick and have very good prices.

i built my cone filter out of parts avalible at my local autozone. They just happened to have a maf to 4 inch cone adapter sitting on the shelf... The i just bought a 6 inch cone filter with 4 inch inlet... turned out pretty good

There is an Ebay bolt-on cone filter (much like the Buschur unit) that doesn't require any funky adapter. The filter just bolts right up to the MAF and doesn't do screwy things to MAF. This is the same filter I use and Bryan @ GST uses (razorlab on this forum).

The funny thing is, I haven't been able to find these filters lately...they all require thatweird adapter plate.

I know which one your talking about thats the old Buschur style filter. From last I heard it got discontinued. Usually people found it under the search title GST filter or GSX filter, because it was used for the 4g63 eclipses as well.

This looks like it:

You will need to go to home depot and purchase some bolts for it, though. I think they're m12 bolts IIRC.
