Question Is my clutch going out or do I just need a tune?

I recenly stared tuning my car with ecuflash and evoscan.. well, I am doing 3rd gear pulls.. So, I run at 2k and the punch it.. The RPM's accellerate and then dip down and accellerate and then dip down.. That's even when I got to 4th and 5th.. The car will accelerate good and the in lowers the RPMS.I even tried crusing in 5th and then punching it.. and it does the same thing.. up and down in RPMs... My question as stated: is it my clutch going out or do I just need a better tune..

You have to be more specific...sounds like the clutch to me...normally the bad tune will make it sputter or just be slow or blow up lol...sounds like the clutch is loosing and gaining clamping force due to either a warped flywheel or an unevenly worn friction disc or both. Stock clutch?

yes.. a stock clutch.. car has 24k. miles on it.. I am 2nd owner.. supposedly.. it was never tracked.. Basically, when I shift gears it goes into gears the RPMS' begin to go up and the dip down and the go back up.. like 25k, 25k, 23k, 22k, 25k, and begins to climb and when ever I do it for every gear it accelerates and decelerates and accelerates again.. still confused?

x2!!!!! A test i do is, get up to about 3500rpm in 4th or 5th gear (where you will make a lot of torque) and floor it. If RPM shoots up as you hit full boost and the car doesnt feel like its accelerating like it should, your clutch is probably dead!

yes i would think bad clutch would equal RPMS increase not decrease. i'm leaning toward something else although 24k isn't unusual mileage for a burned up stocker.

Mine is doing the same thing the dealership things it might not be the clutch but the clutch slave unit. I hope your is possibly the same thing, I wont know until I can get them to look at it.

sound to me like a fuel probelm. . .. . . decrease doesnt mean the clutch is going. to me sound like your fuel pressure is dropping and that is why it will either decrease in rpms or it will styay at the rpms that it is at but feel like it is falling on its face.

think about it if you clutch was slipping or going bad then your rpms would shoot up but you dont actually go anywhere

I agree with the other two posts...if the rpms raise too quick then its the clutch. If it is boging getting back into gear it could be flooding.

I have had a clutch go bad before and the RPMS's would increase rapidly when just driving normal.. But I have never seen the RPMS drop down and then go up.. Idk..

it could be flooding.. I am going to try it when I cruise in 4th and then punch it.. if my rpms and speedometer go together of course it's good but if my rpms go up and speed not then we have a problem.. vice versa in my opinion its clutch.. let ya'll know

If youre hitting boost cut could be the tune, or if the tune is that far off could feel a little rocky.

Shoot me a pm and i can set you up with a base map for a test, if it continues then i can assure you its the clutch failing.

Cheers!
