Coolant Pump Exploded...
So yeah, my coolant pump decided to let go last night.. I already talked to Mitsu. about it and they denied it even in light of the TSB for it. In all honesty, I would rather do it myself anyways..
So I did a bunch of searching, reading to get prepared for replacing it, but just wanted to get some input from people that have replaced it.
You can change it, assuming through the passenger side wheel well, correct?
I ordered a new water pump assembly, and new serpintine (Needed one anyways) belt. Is there anything else I need?
Any tips/tricks to doing this?
Any other information and/or advice in doing this will help tremendously. I am in needing to do this asap due to the car being my daily driver..
Thanks to anyone who provides input..

Car has 54K on it.. So, It fell just short of me tearing it all apart anyways. I was planning on doing it all the middle of this month, so it was about two weeks early..
I already have all my other normal service parts, except the water pump. Mitsu is overnighting one for me as we speak..

Looking at my service manual, it says to remove the timing belt.. Shoot, do you really have to remove the timing belt? I can see having to remove the cover, but the timing belt tensioner too?

AND MAKE SURE YOU DONT RE-USE THE HYDRAULIC TENSIONER! These can only be compressed once! Once they have been released, do not re do it! I did this and I am not in the process of a motor build because of it! My tensioner let go on the dyno and destroyed my head! Buschur told me that they consider them a throw away item, one use only!
Yea they used to just put them in a vice and re-compress them on the DSMs, which is what we did on mine once because the mechanical tensioner wasnt right, thats what caused the hydraulic one to fail while on the dyno, belt slipped 2 teeth and now im looking at a $$$$$$$$ bill for my new build!

I'd be more likely to think what they meant is that if you're doing a timing belt job at anything over 40,000 miles, it is just good practice to replace the tensioner and other related parts at the same time. I generally replace the tensioners, idler pulleys, balance shaft belt (if the motor still has one) and water pump (at least ever other timing belt change) just so you don't have to go back and do the job again in a few thousand miles if the parts you didn't replace then need service...
No, when he was doing his installs, he was not changing it each time. This was coming from one of the guys working on the cars (sorry, Im not sure who it was, it wasnt Dan but Dan was standing there), he said that when they are doing them that if they need recompressed, they just use a new one. Im just relaying the information that could be helpful so more people dont have to deal with the same **** im going through, I would have rather thown away 2 $90 tensioner and use new ones, than having to re-build my motor due to the ****-up I made!

They just denied it right away because they knew it was heavily modded. They told me they would replace it if the car came in "stock". Fak them. Next week I am going down there just to have a heart to heart about the Regional Manager who keeps denying anything I call them for. Even stuff not related to any mods I have ever done. I am getting sick of them taking advantage of people, and not paying attention to the Magnisson (SP?) Moss warranty thingy..
Well, I can't get a belt tensioner in time, so that's not getting replaced. I am going to put the car back together just so it's driveable, and order a few more things, then put it on next week sometime....
Any more input would be great people!
