Act clutch problem
Act clutch problem
i am currently running a ACT MB7 - XTG6, i broke the clutch in bout 500 miles then let it loose, have done approx 1100 miles all in all now, and to be fair am not pleased with clutch.
i have a problem with stiff gear changes and it also hesitates in going into gear when it is being driven hard. the car is running 320whp.
the problem could be due to the fact that i am running a stock flywheel, can anyone please enlighten me on this?

That clutch is a bit overkill for your power level, however, clutch pedal adjustment may be necessary.
Did you replace the throw out bearing when you put the new clutch in?
Here's a how to: http://evomoto.com/tech_info.php?tPa...97ee5bcbbc5299

thanks for that will give it a try,
all the bearings that came with clutch were changed over, im not sure which ones they were as the garage installed it.
do you think it could be down to having a stock flywheel? is there any point in getting hold of a fidanza flywheel?

Did you machine the flywheel? If the flywheel has any undulations on it, any high spots at all it could be hanging up a little bit. Clutches are inherently simple mechanisms. ACT doesn't do anything different than anyone else in terms of building it so the problem is likely to be maladjustment or a skipped step on the install, like the machine work.

well I have xtss too. Nice clutch, of course stiffer than stock but after 5000 miles no issues whatsoever. 8000rpm gearchanges, no lift shifts, etc....
No issues whatsoever... I agree that the exedy has a like stock feeling but I didn't want to change discs very often...where exedy is known for doing that...
Try to Adjust the clutch...

Thats the main problem with them. I have an Exedy Twin, love it.
2 of my friends have the ACT and they both hate them and want Exedy. I have driven one of them and it shifts like crap, to notchy and hard to shift for me.
If you are interested, I am going to be selling my Exedy Twin before long. Buschur is pulling it out with my new build. The only reason I am selling it is that I am going to a Tilton Carbon/Carbon. The Exedy only has about 1K miles on it, never launched. It was just broken in when we blew the motor on the dyno. Let me know if you are interested.

. Or the shops that install them without adjusting it and hand the keys to the customer. It's the same as putting in a set of cams in your car and not bothering to degree them. Each car is different, some require more adjustment than others some require none. There are people with Exedy twin disc clutches on here that have to get theirs adjusted as well but after paying $1200 for the clutch vs. $450 - $500 for the ACT single disc most aren't in here bragging about it. There are quite a few on here that have numerous launches on ACT clutches without issue.
Most people never come on here and admit that it could be them or the install, it's always the next guy. If you need a twin disk go buy one, but not every body making 350 ft. lbs of torque really needs one.
