Stroker Kits

About how much horsepower can I expect ... if any ... by giving myself a longer stroke...

I know JUN and Tomei make stroker kits...but if I enlarged my stroke from a 2.0 to 2.2 or 2.4 what sort of power increase could I expect....

That's tough one to answer..because most people do strokers with a combination of: a)head work ( i.e. cams, valves, porting) or b) turbine up-graded. So the actual gains by the kit it self would be hard to gauge. Besides, without cams or least adjustable cam pulleys the kit would not worth money...remember you are changing the stroke of engine now....

stroker itself wont give you noticable power increase
strokers are designed to work with bigger turbos/higher boost and proper fuel tuning. Not sure aobut Tomei, but JUN stroker kits are extremely strong and have reduced weight, crankshaft are shaved and balanced, forged rods, cossworth pistons.

Well on my EVO VIII...I looking to run about 350 - 400 hp...I have about 7k to put into the car...but my basic idea for mods is to totally build the engine...what would some of you recommend for a setup for the car...

If your only looking to run about 350-400hp I wouldn't even bother with a stroker kit until you want 500+hp.

First I would recommend freeing up the exhaust system and swapping out the intercooler piping for a hard kit. Boost and fuel controller.(reflash, piggyback, AFC etc...) And a aftermarket clutch.

Next change the exhaust manifold and larger turbo, injectors, fuel pump and engine management. If you want more HP.

If you still want even more HP then add cams, gears, stroker and what ever else you desire. I wouldn't worry about the internals unless you want 400+hp to the wheels.

Also you might want to look into upgrading the suspension with the increase in HP. Good Luck.

Stroker kit = 2.2L = 200cc more displacement = approx. 10% power increase assuming your turbo can accommodate the increased demand for air.

By itself, it won't give you any real worthwhile power increases.

Assuming compression stays the same, the larger displacement would give you slightly better turbo spool, but so would porting the turbo and exhaust manifold....so a stroker kit is not the best bang for the buck out there.

You can readily achieve the type of power you want at the wheels without much fuss.

True enough...but you can create a very well rounded road race/ autocross/ or rally engine. Something like the turbo xs kit with a 2.2l engine would net about 400hp on 91oct (don't forget that most if not all of the high hp 2.0l cars to date are running their numbers on race gas). The engine would have a HUGE power band and would beat PEAKY ("go for the highest peak number" tuned) in real world conditions. It could run low 12's on pump gas and have fantastic drivability.

Not everyone wants the simplest route to 400hp. I also want 300lbft at 2800RPM (and 400lbft at 5500...). Now thats a engine

Don't expect too much power gain after install the 2.2 L stroker kits. I had done a some research on this. In Malaysia there's a few running with this kits. From the stock to 2.2L it gains about 20 ~ 25 bhp. But with good low end response.
This is the only part to upgrade if you are looking over 500bhp in an EVo.
The problem to install this kits are the crank and cond rod bearing need to replace due to stock bearings cannot hold too high power. As well as the top head bolt. Unlike old 4G63T for EVO3 below, those has bigger top head bolt. Obviously generation EVO4 up is more thinner.
