Evo 8 Upgrade Questions?

I have a 2004 Evo 8 RS and im kinda new with this stuff. My current mods are:

-Buschur stage 1 (intake, TBE with test pipe and bullet muffler, boost controller)
-Buschur FMIC with LICP
-Walbro fuel pump
-AEM Uego and boost guage
-Tuned by NUKED

I just ordered a Evo 9 turbo with Evo 8 install kit. I also ordered a stock manifold (ported and coated) and a Megan o2 housing (also ported and coated). And to finish it off some HKS 272's.

My Questions... Will I need new injectors, what kind of boost should I be running and do I need to do Springs and Retainers???

Also if you watch this video it will show you how bad I get beat by Evo 9 's with similar mods! Please help !!!

When it's simple bolt on's the 9 has mivec which helps out a lot. When it comes to bigger turbos and cams Mivec really makes no different. forget the 9 turbo go evogreen.

You should be ok with what you have. I would look into a new timing belt and tensioner while your doing the cams to be safe! I agree with the others, Go green with 780cc injectors, you will be much more happy! I went 8 to 9 turbo and it doesnt do that much! Or if you want alot, go with Meth injection!

I was going to order a stock ported and coated from Buschur but it was $200 and so I ordered it from AWD motorsports for $140.

Upgraded springs/retainers are not absolutely necessary with HKS 272's. Unless you plan to rev past the stock rev cut then you should be fine with the stock setup. I ran 272's in my stock head for over 2 years and when I pulled the head to upgrade to a race ported on the stock vavletrain was in great shape.

I recommend you send that 9 turbo to FP to have it built to a Green. It'll cost you a grand but you'll put down way more power than the 9's you are running against. Also a set of 720 or 780 injectors will complement that turbo as well. If you say with the stock 9 turbo then you should be fine with the stock injectors.

You do not need Aprings and retainers for HKS 272s, Alot of people are running HKS 280s with stock springs and retainers.

Buschur, JUN, and Tomei 272s are about the only ones that require upgraded springs and retainers!

They are only needed if you are going over the stock rev limit. I ran BC 272s and was perfectly fine. I then upgraded to BC 280s with BC springs and retainers. I am nor going to a Buschur Stage 3 head with BR Cams and Supertech Dual Springs and Retainers.

The point at which you ECU cuts fuel to keep from over-revving the motor...I think (don't quote me on this) it is 7600.

7600 rpms, some guys will up it to 8k and still be safe, but they only use it for drag racing and they only take 4th gear that high inorder to stay in 4th gear across the line.
