Is it that slicks don't wheel hop because they are just gripping all the time pretty much? How much wheel spin do you get with slicks generally on a good launch?

The softer sidewall on the slicks will absorb most wheel hop, keeping it from transferring to the rest of the drivetrain. For the most part, wheel hop is what kills drivetrain parts. But thats not to say that too much grip won't.

I burn them out all the time but they still absorb the shock much better. Like big ballons with air to cushion

no they still spin a decent amount
