New to Evo's, clutch question

I'm new to the Evos, so my question pertains specifically to the Evo. I pick the car I bought up Saturday (first time I'll get a chance to get down there) It has a few mods and was tuned by AMS. Made 286hp/289tq on their dyno on a 91 degree high humidity day. With that power how quickly will I need a clutch? Yes, I realize it's an impossible question, but with that power I assuming some of you guys will have an idea.

I'm weighing the option of clutch now or cams/LICP/ARP head studs/retune now. It has AMS turboback, Forge diverter valve/MBC, Walbro pump, K&N filter and an AMS tune.

My guess is I'm right there with the power. I would probably be okay as is for a good while, but I couldn't do the mods without pushing the stock clutch. I get to the drag strip maybe 2 - 3 times a year, so I'm not terribly hard on it I suppose. It is my daily driver so we'll see.

I'd consider the LICP and clutch at the same time, but then I need a retune now and I would need another after the next performance mods. I'd rather do them all together.

Not really a factor of the clutch holding with those mods.. It depends on the abuse you give it as a result of the extra power..

Which is why I mentioned the track. I daily drive it and don't abuse the car on a regular basis. I do get to the drag strip a couple times a year and make a handful of passes each time. I haven't done much auto-x/road course stuff.

I don't quite have a handle yet on how well the stock clutch will hold up to the limited drag racing I do.

I will also note I have never drag raced anything other than FWD cars...so I have no idea how to launch this car. The best I've gotten was a 2.0 60' on my SRT...and I know that's not stressing much, haha.

Hmm...tempting then. I suppose if it did start to slip I could just back off for a few weeks until I could get the clutch put in.

I may reconsider my choices. Thanks.

I think with that power and torque you should be fine, its when you get to 320hp/tq is when I think you'll start havin probs. I had the clutch slipping in higher gears when I got around 10psi, I drove for two weeks like this until I got an ACT put in. Best gas milage ever, due to stayin out of boost for the time being...

But the big thing is how you drive the car personnaly...

As I said I am new to Evos, but I would have to guess with cams/LICP, more boost and a retune I would be around 320hp/tq.

We'll see what happens. Maybe I'll just swing all of it at once and be done. I may hold off on the performance stuff until next spring just so I have room to grow still on the stock turbo. I don't want to have to upgrade the turbo yet.

That may work and may not. I am still on stock clutch, but I have a friend whose clutch just went out and from the time it started slipping to when it was no longer driveable was about 5 days.

I have all bolt ons, cams, and added meth at the beginning of the month. I have been to the dragstrip nine or ten times and always run three or four times. I am at about 23,xxx miles, running 11's and still on stock clutch. You should be fine for a while, unless the last owner dogged it out.

The last owner doesn't seem like that type of guy, but who knows. It's an '05 with 26k and he bought it new, so he doesn't drive it a ton.

stock clutch is very stout with good clutch hygiene, and no launching. With near full boltons, pushing 37k on a '03 with stock clutch. still grabs like new.
