boost lag :(

Dear All,

My bro's evo7 which he recently bought is hitting boost very late on, i can't figure out the problem with it

Its a evo7 with a built block, powerfc, stock turbo, evo8mr intercooler. I'm running 1.5 bar boost.

on the first and second gear we hit 1.3 bar of boost and then in third and fourth we hit 1.5 and 1.53 respectively.

also in first gear i start spooling boost at 3800-4000 rpm which is very late in my opinion since a HKS gt3037s spooled before my turbo and took the lead when i rolled with him even though its a bigger turbo

i'm sure theres no boost leak since if there was the car would not idle correct since its running on AF and its not MAP tuned.

the turbo seems fine, there is no oil or death whine either.

anyone figure this one out please?

thanks.

A car can idle perfect with massive boost leaks, you can have a coupling open up at 5psi and be perfectly closed when there is no boost :P

This car your bro has needs to have a datalog of a run I suspect the tune is knocking all over the place. You may also consider doing a whole battery of tests on it like compression, boost leak, spark plugs, etc to see if everything checks out.

@roadspike: Thanks a lot mate, i will be tuning it over the weekend, the temperatures rise too quickly coz of the hot and humid weather, therefore am running it very little these days.

I suspect the tuning is out, its running very rich at low rpms.

need to link up my laptop n check whats going on with datalogit i suppose.

thanks though.
