I remember a thread on here not to long ago that had a video of a guy with BF272's idling on the stock ECU....he said it wasn't to bad to get it to work.

I think that is one of Mellons customers, maybe shoot him a PM about it. If I had a 8, I would have gotten the BF272's. But being that I have a IX, and not enough money for the Jun's I felt the Kelfords were what would be best for me. FWIW

Quote: I do not recommend our BF272 for anyone running the stock ECU, I don't think you will be happy with the idle.
dave, i'm not sure what the op's mods are but haven't you stated in the past that your BF272's did not work well with a stock frame turbos?
It appears in the past that it was not recommended to pair cams like JUN272, GSC S2, Kelford TX272 with a stock frame turbo, but we are seeing more people going this route and getting results.
Do you care to revise your recommendations for use of BF272 with stock frame turbos, and can you also comment on statements made by others here that there are identical if not very similar grind to JUN272?

The OP didn't mention his turbo, he asked a simple question about which cams to use with the stock ECU. Every topic gets WAY off topic on this site.

I do not recommend our cams for a small turbo car BUT I have tuned a few greens now with our BF272's in them and they did make good power, not as much torque as a smaller more suitable cam would have but they seemed to work fine.

My mods are in my sig. I was going to attempt to run them on my green for an experiment but am planning on grabbing a HTA35r or precision 6265 from Mike. Everything is going to be fully built so i'm not too worried.

The guy who was tuned w/the BR cams was a guy named Freddy, he was tuned by Jr. at The Shop in Conn. It was done on a BR HTA35r cast mani i believe, i'm not sure. I'll try and give Mellon a pm. He's not going to have any news for me though, since he's planning on waiting to get his block and head done before he swaps cams and tunes on the stock ecu.

So Dave, did the BR cams improve any topend? Or did it just effect the torque?

I had great luck with the bf272 with the stock ECU. In the extreme cold winter (20 degrees and colder) it was a must to let the car warm up for a min or 2. But Drivablity and gas mileage were great (25 mpg average), It did sound VERY MEAN at idle ..

If you have time to play with inj latency and size, you can get this puppys to work a ok. Not nearly as good as the AEM at all, but good enough.

BF272 ALL THE WAY. With the stock ECU/mass air, stock Head,stock intake mani, and HTA35r. On pump/meth @ 28psi It ran 11.1@ 131 with a 1.96 60ft.

Good Luck!

Thanks for chiming in Freddy, I appreciate it.

I have not dyno tested the BF272's on a stock turbo/green type turbo back to back against anything else. This is in response to if they lost any low/mid range. I can't answer that. My guess would be "yes" they will sacrifice some low/mid range but the cams have a fat power curve. To date I can't find a cam that has done better on my HTA35r car. I ran 4 more sets of cams in the last few weeks. I've found 2 sets that make a little more over 8,000 rpm or so but with losses that are too large in the mid range for me to use.

Well i'll prolly just run my Hks w/the Green but order me a set of BR cams when you guys get more in stock. I may swap cams and retune and see if i can see a difference at the track to just to see if i get any improved times. Otherwise, they'll go well w/my next setup. Again, thanks Dave and Freddy for the info.

Nice!

I did 7.75sec 1.65 60ft 88mph last night with stock 16G 9.8 hotside hks 280s cams.

It was my last run with my stock turbo before I install my HTA37R.
