help with turbo upgrade!

hey guys, im new to the forums and just had some questions.

I'm at the point where i want to upgrade my turbo and ive been looking into the garrett GT30R upgrade turbo.

Right now i have in the car:
HKS Catback HiPower Exhaust
Injen Air Intake/Intercooler Piping
Turbo XS intercooler
Megan Racing Manifold

Sitting on my counter i have:
Exedy Twin plate clutch
OEM throw out baring
gsc stage one cams
hks cam gears/timing belt
ams 680 cc injectors
Walboro fuel pump
HKS EVC

I also know i need a new downpipe/hiflow cat, and ARP headstuds, which i was planning on getting from buscher when i get all this put in

I was originally looking into the evo green turbo but decided i wanted to get a bigger one. Is what i have going to be enough? Will the manifold fit, will the intercooler pipes/intake fit, and so on and so forth.

I know this is a major noob question but im really lookin for some help guys.

Its an 05 evo VIII

if you mean an aftermarket turbo like a 30R, 50 trim or 35R, whatever, then no the megan header won't fit. most turbo kits come with all the parts you need, but realize a kit is gonna run you about 3 grand on the starting end, up to 7k+ for some kits.

You have a lot of searching and fact finding to do...
For starters, that turbo isn't going to bolt right up.

He is right.....Search and you will see the correct modpath to attempt 500whp.

Its not that hard with the right parts.

1200$ might seem like a deal....but then add 400-1200$ for a manifold, 1-150$ for lines and such, 200$ for an 02 that'll bolt up, probably another 300$ for a dp to bolt up, possibly a different lower ic pipe, possibly 400$ for a new radiator if your set up doesn't fit right, another 150-200 for an intake if yours won't adapt......it adds up. Kits are actually a pretty good deal when you price out the parts seperately.

Oh forgot to ask, what are your fuel plans?? E85/race gas/meth injection? If you don't add these its going to be hard to get 500whp on pump. Yes its been many times this year, but those guys have FULLY built cars with AEM EMS and Buschur doin the tuning. If you want 500 on pump you're either shelling out 10k min or your gonna have a really big turbo with horrible spool.

You should speak to ETS and see what they can do for you. They make a nice super-value kit starting at $2,690 and includes a good amount of items needed. You will have to change out your manifold though. I plan on going with their 3065R kit and their fmic to make around 440whp on pump and no meth.

Before you start throwing money at your car, you need to really think about what you want and how you're going to use your car.
- For starters, what fuel?
- Drag racing, road racing, autoX, or street use only?
- How much spoolup are you willing to lose? (i.e. is hitting full boost 1000 RPMs later that you are used to acceptable?)
- Budget?

Turbo upgrades need to be thought of as a system, not a bolt-on. Once you get into something like the Garret series of turbos (i.e. 30r), it's not just as simple as slapping on a turbo and going fast. The combination of parts will have a significant effect on how well the turbo is going to work.

For $300.00, I'll sell you the bulk of the hardware needed for you to "bolt-up" a gt30r turbo to your set-up.

You will need to have a welder 'mate' this downpipe to a 3" dp. (I'm still using the other half)

Other than oil/water lines and an intake, this set-up from ATP will make your desires a wish come true.

You can search through my posts for dyno results with this kit on.

^ Just say no.

To the OP: you've got one of the best Evo shops in the country in your state - Buschur Racing. Talk to them, or visit their shop. No point in cobbling something together, when you've got that level of support in your back yard.

The Meagan header CAN fit correctly configured turbine housings.

Used kits are all under 3k---- Search the forums.
