Haha I know its torque, sorry about that should have put WTQ not HP didnt really think, it was late and i was about to go to bed, just something that was on my mind...i was going back and forth about whether to build it, swap it or just leave it be and see how it holds up. I want to get either a Fp Red turbo or a BR3065 and im leaning towards the Red as its cheaper and makes really good numbers. I plan on running only pump gas too, maybe alky but thats about as far as it will go for a while as im still in high school

Haha I can drive farly good for my age. The only thing thats happened to my car was we had a really foggy night here in ohio and you could see less than 50ft in front of you and a deer ran out into the road i was on and i hit it but other than that i can drive decent. I respect the power that it has and ive been driving it for over a year now :]

I have over 35k miles of no lift shifting on my mr tranny. Only problems I have had is the stupid spring I bent that makes 6gear a pain to engage/disengage. That was from being dumb and slamming 5th gear. Honestly I do enjoy my 6mt, my biggest gripe is the gearing for the 1/4 mile, on the street I have no probs.

No offense to anyone here...but can we get some sort of sticky made for this topic and be done with it? I mean if you're going for insane levels of power and pushing your car on the track you'll want to re-think the transmission regardless. Of course the five speed is stronger thanks to the thicker gears, but Christ on a cracker if you know how to drive and keep it reasonable you'll be fine. Heck, I'm at 323 and heading for 30k miles...still stock tranny AND clutch...and oh yes, I push that sucker hard every once in a while.

So here's my vote for someone to make some sort of sticky. Evo transmissions are weak regardless of 5 or 6 gears, with 6 being somewhat weaker under more extreme conditions. If you're going to track your car every weekend, you're a fool for not considering an upgrade to either. If you don't and your 6 speed dies, oh well, get a Shep. If you don't and your 5 speed dies, oh well, get a Shep.

this ^^^ on the other hand, IS NOT! who the F*** cares if the kid is in high school. if he respects the car and the power lucky him. its people like you with their b******t comments that keep people hating young evo drivers! thinking they're all horrible drivers that will soon wreck their cars... id really appriciate it if you left this s*** to self.

Right, people get it through ya heads that TQ entails the main problems specially when launching in the beginning gears. HP comes after the vehicles already moving from the push/pull of the TQ.

Therefore High HP will if it were the case only would really damage after 2nd or 3rd in which i highly doubt would happen, unless the internal synchro's get damaged somehow.

Most of the issue is People just don't know how to drive!

Haha, if you think Evo trannys are weak you should get out a little and read about the transmissions that come in some other cars. Actually MOST other cars.
