Ok so tonight i was driving home from picking up some new wheels about an hour away, which is all highway. Well after picking up my new wheels and putting them on i hear this noise in which like something was barely hitting, like a feathering noise. Nothing major nothing that sounded way out of line. Though it may have been my fan or what not, and didnt think much of it. Well it goes away or i just dont hear it anymore after a few minutes of driving, now keep in mind it was at idle as well. So we go and eat, after that we start our hour journey back home. Nothing out of the normal is happening all is good, watching my coolant level and all of that everything is fine. Well of off the sudden BAM! I hear a loud pop, and first thing that struck me was maybe a wheel had came loose. So i suddenly pull to the side make sure all my lugnuts and all are on there and tight which they are. I get to thinking, well i lost power steering during this. popping noise. So i get out look around nohting. Turbo is glowing red hot, this was cruising at 85 no hard pulls or anything just cruising. Well i listen for anything out of the normal and i hear what seems to be stuff cooling down like a liquid. So i go look at my guages and holy cow my temp gauge is damn near pegged! So at this point im like holy **** no way my motor just gave out im good on coolant everything else! So i call a good friend who is a mechanic and he asked me about my water pump if its still working. So then i put two and two together and realize hey check the belt! Well after looking everything over on the side of the highway i notice the belt has came off! I pull on it thinking it may have torn in two well it hadnt. All of it is still there and appears it has slipped off. Is this im assuming what caused my loud popping noise? What all do i need to check for? Also what do i need to do to get it back on? Is this a simple put it back on do some adjusting and go? Has this happend to anyone else? Any help on what i need to look for or possibly do would be appreciated thanks alot.

THIS WAS NOT THE TIMING BELT ITS THE BELT THAT RUNS THE POWER STEERING AND WATER PUMP BELT.

Make sure you change your oil in the near future as overheating kills the oil very quickly and in the future turn the heater on full blast with the hood open to aid cooling. As far as what damage to check for, someone else will have to chime in.

 

If your timing belt popped off on you... worst case scenario, your pistons slammed against your valves. BAD NEWS!
