Exedy stage 2, 15,000 miles, 60 drag passes
I just wanted to post this up and share with everyone else my experience so far with my Exedy stage 2 clutch. I've voiced my opinion in other threads giving it the thumbs up, and letting others looking at clutches know that I've been using it for about a year and a half now.
I bought this clutch after my stocker was unable to handle the power from the addition of my cams on my Evo, before that, the stocker was good for me, I even had several drag passes with a full TBE and O2 house, MBC set to 22psi on the stock clutch. When I put the cams in, it would let go when I floored it in 3rd from 3500 or so. I bought the Exedy stage 2 4 puck clutch in order to handle more power, and have enough clutch for whatever mods in the future. Break in procedure was followed with 900 miles!! of non aggressive stop and go driving. Since then I've got about 50 to 60 passes at the strip, and 15,000 street miles on the clutch.
A couple weeks ago, I was adjusting the AFR's on my evo in 3rd gear, I did a pull, and when I got to 7k I let off and pushed the clutch in, however, when I took it out of gear, it felt odd... took me a minute to realize the clutch actually had not disengaged. I got it over to the garage, and thought maybe the wedge collar (clip) had somehow popped loose... however, it did not look like it through the inspection hole. However, I called Exedy the next morning and spoke with Evan, who was nice enough to send me out a replacement collar while I worked on disassembling the car.
When it came time to pull the tranny off the engine, oddly enough, I could not get the clip loose even though I had though it was already off? No matter how much we tried, we could not get the collar loose. I was really starting to wonder if I was loosing my mind, but after quite a while of working on it, finally got it loose, and this is what I found inside:

This piece of the cerametallic puck had broken off and got itself jammed between another puck and the flywheel... which is why it would not disengage.
It looks as if the pieces were coming off for some time, as only the one was still in the bellhousing. Upon further inspection, the pressure plate has MAJOR cracking along the entire wear surface...

The stock flywheel is a pretty stout piece, and mine was resurfaced before installation. I took it out, and measured the wear, we fit an 8 thousands feeler from the inside edge up to the wear line, but not all the way around. That's right, it was not worn evenly.. so I took it to my machinist and had him go over it with a fine tooth comb, to ensure that the clutch side was perfectly flat when compared to the crank side, he could find nothing wrong with it, and resurfaced it again for me, it's nice and flat again.
As far as the Exedy, I have tried to contact Evan, or anyone in Tech support twice now, leaving messages both times, which have both gone unanswered. I was hoping to speak with them about this, or maybe even send the unit in for inspection.
I've got to say that this clutch was an absolute animal to drive on the street, meaning there is no way to "baby" the car from a stop light. There is alot of "bouncing" and chatter, some of which may have contributed to this mess.
This may just be "too much" for the street, or perhaps something else was wrong, or maybe 60 passes is all these are good for? Hopefully, I'll get Exedy to finally talk to me about this, and get an answer. Sorry for the long winded post, but I wanted to share the whole ordeal with you guys.

If it wasn't for drag race, I would not have went with this even before all this happened, simply put, I wanted something that could handle tons of power and not cost as much as a twin, I was willing to sacrifice driveability and comfort, and my left leg.

Was hoping to deal with Exedy, but because of the delay with the callback, I had to order a new clutch and install it.. have to drive the car, ya know?

::Edit:: Yes, I saw you answered about the pedal pressure, I was curious about grab/noise.
The grab does seem good, but I haven't even cracked 5psi on this yet, strictly granny driving... as far as noise, I've heard it twice from a stop, and minor chatter when I start it cold.. really I can hardly hear it over the exhaust
I'm going to make a write up on it after my break in for sure, in the review section!
I have the stage 2 as well. It is definitely not a easy clutch to work with on the street and rush hour, forget about it! I can't say anything about wear 4 passes 1000 miles
60 passes? Damn, I only got 20 with 500whp and using the Exedy Triple carbon worth $4,000.
I went through two Exedy triple carbons and had to listen to their "engineers" try to blame anything from installation, driving habits, not slipping it enough, slipping it too much, blah, blah, blah...
I will never buy another Exedy product again. I rock a Tilton twin carbon now. Expensive, but worth it.

man that beyond sucks!Yep, about 60 passes.
You know, I didn't realize how many passes I had put on it till I counted up every time I had been to the track since buying it. I am shocked it's about 60!

This is how it went down..
I got the trans back from shep after a full rebuild and put a new exedy HD twin in and the car would grind 2nd gear but not any of the other gears.. SO I called shep and he said to send the trans in and he would check it out. I got a call back and he said nothing was wrong with it to check the top plate on the clutch for warpage and it was warped.. "how was it warped?? I have no clue as i had never even launched the car!!" So I replaced the parts he told me to which was the top plate and disc... And now the clutch trys to slightly disengage off the floor and then finally engages up top where its supposed too. It only does this when the car has warmed up.... And it still grinds 2nd gear!! And shep even put all new 2nd gear parts in just incase...
I hope to god Exedy takes care of me on this. This clutch has NEVER been right and I have over 2000$ in it now and a trans rebuild on top of that.. PLUS shipping it back to get checked!! I am in shock basically. 2k$ in a clutch that doesnt work properly and is causing grinding and engagement issues.. Heck thats why i bought a twin in the 1st place as I wanted a clutch that would help shifting.. Now I got one that causes grinding.
