I smell gas in my oil...
I smell gas in my oil, please HELP!
I was just wanting to check to see if this was as bad as I think it is...
I opened my hood to check out my engine after a trip. You know, checking the oil, coolant, etc... I pulled my dip-stick out and the oil "looked" fine. I also just had it changed about 500 miles earlier. But when i smelled it, it kind of smelled like gas?
Then, knowing that it's not normal for this to be that way I took the cap off of the valve cover and smelled it, guess what... it smelled worse than the dip-stick. It smelled like gas. Does this mean my bearing are bad already and I'm leaking gas into my oil?
I have also read the post where pople are saying not to break-in you Evo with the synthetic oil that comes in it. But seems contradictory to what Mitsu. says because they specificaly say to break it in with Mobil one synetic. If you even change the oil from Mobile one syn. you will break your warranty. I keep it below 5000 rpms the whole time duing this break-in period and road it to 700 miles (100 miles futher than what they recommended) because I wanted to be perfectly sure that it was done right. Right after I, I changed my oil, w/ Mobile one) to get out all that **** that comes out after a normal break in. Then changed it every 3000 miles. I now have 8000 miles on it, very minor mods, and it feels like a turd above 5000 rpm's. This is not right, and something is very wrong. Please everyone, smell your oil and check if it smells like gas. Tommorow I'm getting some kind of test done to see if it is the problem. If it is I will most likely need a new motor, and that makes me very, very angy. I love and baby my Evo and honestly didn't think I would need a new motor until I was pushing like 5-600hp or 200,000 miles.
What does everyone think I should do? Any help would be greatly apprecated.

naaa all my synthetic oil filled cars smell like gas! Its normal. Its not really gas your smelling, it just the hot *** oil. Smell it when its cold, it will smell a little milder.
Dont worry, ive had a 95 GST, 02 WRX, and now the EVO and they ALL have oil that smells like gas.

take a lighter to the dipstick (just for a second) if there is gas in the oil it will light. I think it goes without saying but, I'll say it anyway be sure to do this away from the engine bay or any other flammable liquids.

FWIW I know of an Evo that had what could be a similiar problem. Took to a smog check place and they removed the valve cover and used a sniffer to check for excess hyrocarbons and found it was way high with gasoline. This particular car had heavy duty blowby from rings and the engine was no longer usable in that state. As I recall it had something like 1200 miles on it at the time. Mitsu took care of it.
