Custom LICP for FP Red
Custom LICP for FP Red
I'm just finishing up the install of my FP Red. Since I didn't know whether any of the usual LICP setups offered by the shops would fit with the choice of pipes and intercooler that I was using, I decided to have one fabbed locally. Since I wanted the LICP mandrel bent from 304 SS 2.5" tubing, I had my local mandrel bending shop whip up a LICP for my setup using the FP race pipe extension and a 4" intercooler. This gave me an exact fit, with a nicely made part, for less than the shops charge, and I didn't have to wait for shipping. It's all good.
For those of you wondering how to do it, here's what I did:
1. Make a template from thick cardboard. Place it under the front of your car, using a straight edge for reference (or marking a good line using the front of your intercooler for a guide) so that you can make sure you're not moving the template around.
2. Mark the end (and centerline) of your intercooler entry pipe.
3. Mark the end (and centerline) of the pipe exiting your turbocharger compressor cover (I used the FP 2" race pipe option).
4. Use the template to layout the tubing you will use (or take it to your friendly fabricator, have him use it to make your part, and to check to the finished product to make sure it matches the configuration of your existing piping.)
Mine was about 9.75" wide (center to center) with the rear leg about 8" longer than the front. Your mileage may vary
When it's done, spiff it up with a quick shine using Semichrome or Mother's Mag Polish. After all, it's at the bottom of your engine compartment, where nobody will ever see it again.
You will need a 2"---> 2.5" coupler for one end (FP has them) and a 2.5" --- (whatever size your intercooler entry is) coupler on the other end. Don't forget the T-bolt clamps.

are you talking about the buschur outlet pipe that is 2" in size and extends past the downpipe?
buschur makes a LICP specifically for that outlet pipe, called like the candy something pipe, which was $150. its not advertised on his website.

I don't know what pipe Buschur sells. I'm talking about the 2" race pipe option that FP offers with their turbos on their website.
You can probably imagine why I might not know about an unadvertised LICP offering from Buschur Racing.
