What turbo to buy?

I have recently collected my used JDM Evo 9 GT and have done some basic stuff to it but would like to seek some advice from you guys.

1st let me share with you guys what I want. I'm not a big power person, throttle response and handling is my thing. What I want is a nice daily driver and a weekend track machine. I heard of people sending the stock Evo IX turbo to the UK to hybrid it or make it fully ball bearing with great success but am not sure if this is the way to go. All I want is for the turbo to spool up faster and give me more response over the regular setup.

What I have in the car now are as follows

HKS Kansai intake manifold
ARC intercooler
CoolMax radiator
HKS fuel rail
SARD fuel regulator
HKS Racing II BOV-not sure if I should swap this out after reading some posts
Stock Turbo and Piping
HKS Hi Silent Exhaust-to be swaped out for Apexi N1 or Kakimoto Regu R
HKS Air Filter

Sending the turbo to UK and back would cost me around $3.9k USD to get it done. Is this my only alternative for better response or is there a better place I should spend my money on?

the guy is not happy with the evo 9 turbo response, you guys want him to go green or red???

what turbo do you have?? it should be the one that ends with 71 right?? in this case it would be very difficult to improve the spool / response. Maybe the only would be to send it to the UK for a bb conversion.

IMO, nothing can touch the response of the 71 series e9 mag turbo, IF it can survive high boost application. I already blew two mag turbo, then went to the FP WHite, but the spool/response has definitely suffered.

If I have to deal with more lag, I would rather go all out and get the HTA 35R, or just stick with the stock turbo for best response.

Some people have the reading comprehension of a 3 year old. He doesn't want any more lag, at all. No offense to straight line junkies but not everyone does the 1320 and highway (read:ILLEGAL) racing. The HTA35r is not the magical do all turbo, get over it. Hell even the red would suck for his application.. Remember in pretty much the rest of the whoooooooole world besides the usa....weekend track machine means a road course car.

Honestly you're not going to get much better response then a stock turbo. A TME might work for you. Don't port the hotside, get a good 02 housing and the proper ex mani, nothing made for top end only.

Put a Garret3581hta turbo from Forced performance and all its related components you wont regret it, or buy the evo green turbo
www.forcedperformance.net or www.buschurracing.com/ you cant go wrong with these people

its true the HTA 35 has some lag, but it also makes the car more economical because driving around you never are under boost and if you know how to drive the car you dont feel the lag, when you want boost you go to a lower gear and push the throttle , the diference is so much that you would not care about lag.
Maybe you havent tried this turbo,
also there is always the famous green turbo and it dosent cost $3900,

Tolerable lag and not wanting any more lag are totally and completely different worlds. He wants better response which isn't really gonna happen but no matter how much better the hta35 spools compared to other t3 turbos....its never going to spool anywhere close to stock.

To the OP on 2nd thought there IS a way to get better response....stroke the motor!

a lightened flywheel to go with the clutch sounds like a winner here. O2 housing would also be beneficial

couldn't have said it better!

evo's are not originally made for drag, they're road going rally cars!
It's true they excel in the 1/4 mile, but that's not their may purpose.
There are people who whant more response/better spool, and none of the top end. These people are simply trying to drive the evo for what it is!

Back to the OP, I think you should shoot turbodynamics a pm, telling them what turbo you have and what can be done to increase its response/spool.

Regarding using a TME turbo, I think the 71 spools very close if not the same as the TME.
