Mitsu dealer gave me the wrong fluid for rear diff and transfer case

OK I was changing my rear diff and transfer case fluid on Friday. So I went to the mitsu dealer and told them what I was doing. Even talked with a master tech. I said I am not doing the transmission just the other two. Also this is a 03 evo gsr. So I get the fluid and go to my shop. When I was putting it in I noticed it was alittle thin. Well compared to the more gummy diaqueen I usually put in. So I figured they know what they are talking about and do it anyway. So today I decided to go in there and just make sure. I was right they gave me transmission fluid. They said it would be fine and just change it over. Well over the weekend I drove the car to indy from Bloomington, IL 600 miles round trip. Talked with John at sheps and he said to pull the plugs and check for metal shaving. Has anyone experienced this? Do you think Mitsu should be responsible for the damage the wrong fluid caused? Any help would be great.

I went to a local dealer this weekend for fluids, and even after I told him what I wanted, he brought back ATF. My first clue should have been when he told me they carry it by the quart, and how much did I need.

i _always_ assume that everyone i am dealing with at the dealership is a complete moron - so i make sure i take personal responsibility in double checking what i put in my own car.

I don't think you can hold anyone responsible for the mistake other than you.

even so - the dealerships i've dealt with have always got me the right parts, but i never count on it.

Unfortunately, Mitsu dealerships lack intelligence. Get that stuff out right now. You might be okay. If not, I would definately try to have the dealer pay for it. See what part # is on the invoice. That's your proof and ticket to possible legal intervention.

I wasnt sure. But after talking with the part guy and a master tech. I thought I would be fine. AMS said it should be fine but would still change it back and check the drain plug. I will let everyone know how it turns out
