Have Syncro Problems? - FILE A COMPLAINT

I have recently developed the dreaded 5th gear syncro failure. Unfortunately, the factory warranty JUST expired, and of course, Mitsubishi will not own up to its defective transmission and make the repair. Even before I made the request, the dealer told me I would have to pay for the tear-down because Mitsubishi suspects abuse. In my situation this is completely absurd. I am probably one of the only people on this board who has the original clutch at 60,000 miles, so abuse it NOT the issue. Since Mitsubishi has issued a TSB on this problem and has developed stronger replacement parts, I feel this should be repaired as a recall, NOT a warranty item. Fortunately, we may have a recourse.

The NHTSA, of whom I am admittedly not a big fan, does have a complaint program. Since this is such a widespread and pervasive problem, I suggest that all of us who have develped the 2nd/reverse or 5th gear syncro problems file a complaint and see if we can force Mitsubishi into a recall.

The link to the complaint registration forms is http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/?CFID=5...TOKEN=56062193

It certainly cannot hurt . . .
