Need Help - Oil Pressure Low

Hi guys,

I have been experiencing this syndrome and would need to hear from gurus outside whether there are anything wrong with my ride pertaining the oil pressure.

Recently I have managed to upgrade my stock engine block to a strengthened block retaining the stock displacment. I did also took the opportunity to remove my balancing shaft.

What happen is this...
1) Everything is ok on rev, oil pressure rises as rpm climbs.
2) At idle, oil pressure reading ok (oil temp around 70ish)
3) But once the oil temp reaches 80 degrees, my engine oil indicator starts flickering and oil pressure low and fluctuating. This only happens at idle.

I just dun understand what is causing this syndrome, i am uncomfortable with this, can anybody advise me what should i do?

Note: I have a twin oil cooler setup. One is the stock OEM oil cooler, and i hook up a HKS oil cooler on the other side of the front bumper. I didnt have any engine oil indicator light flickering on and off and idle even when my oil temp exceed 80 degrees on my STOCK engine. Can it be my oil pump that is faulty? but than again, my oil pressure rises consistently and hold which means the oil pump is working?

Really need help...

kinda a dumb question but did you turn the balance shaft bearings to cover the oil port when you removed them?

change your oil pressure sender, if that doesnt fix the problem then your oil pump may be failing

At cold start, the oil is thicker and the pressure is higher at idle. When you've heated up the oil, it gets thinner, and then when you idle the pressure is lower than at startup. The basic problem is that in some forged engine builds, the clearances are set looser, and the pressure needs are higher at idle. You can turn up your idle RPM, or use thicker oil if everything is OK, just looser.

When you remove your balance shafts, the bushing for the externally oiled shaft must be removed and rotated 180 degrees, so the oiling hole is blocked off by the bearing and is not just pumping oil out into space... I suspect you engine was built like this, but it bears mentioning. When the motor was rebuilt, the oil pump / front cover should have been checked as well, and replaced at the same time if needed. Whenever a new oil pump is necessary, the sides of the gears should be relieved and smoothed to prevent eventual damage to the case itself...

It would also be a good idea to double check the oil pressure sender first, using a real gauge directly in that location, in order to get a good idea whether you are acting on "real" low pressure, or a quirky sender misleading you...
