Have you tried referencing the part number of the Evo crank versus the 2g 7 bolt one? If it was the same I have a 2G one sitting at my house.

I know that there is a vendor on here that has a 2g crank in his evo right now. And is making pretty impressive hp.

It depends on the year...not all 2G cranks are the same.

I only know from experiance.

I had a customer rebuild his evo engine in his back yard with his dad. (redneck boys) They went to a local engine parts store (buck's engine) and bought a crank kit for a 2g 4g63, because at the time there wasnt one listed for the Evo. So they built it, put it together, and couldnt get it to turn over.

Long story short, kid lets it go back to the bank as a repo, we buy it at auction and go to fix it. Pulled the engine and found that the crank was siezed in the bottom end. Bearings were so tight, the crank would not turn even with all the pistion/rods removed and using a breaker bar.

We replaced the bearings with correct sized ones, thinking that the clearance was causing the issue. No go. We ended up having to get an Evo crank. Poped the crank in, and it spun very easliy.

So I would venture to say no it wont.

It will work, you just have to get the correct 2g crank and build it correctly.

Because 2 guys in a backyard could not build a motor is not a reason that someone with skill and knowledge can not make it work .

They didnt get the right one. Even the 2G guys know that not all the cranks are the same for a 2G.

It does work, it has worked, it will work again.

If it's the 7 bolt it will fit just fine. (so will some of the 6 bolt fit but it wont hold very high torque on 6 bolts alone)

The non-evo 4G63 the block and crank makes use of slightly wider main and big end bearings (~2,5mm ) and slightly wider clips that seat them in place, however the crank is the same size and has the same lateral thrust support machined into the crank to prevent crank-walk. Main bearings are the same diameter and thickness and all are interchangeable with exception of the central one. On the older model 4g63 the bearings supported the crank to prevent walking, where as on the evos the crank is supported by two 1/2 circle bearings against the centre journal of the crank which locks the crank in place in the block. On the later models the support comes from the block with two 1/2 circle shim bearings.

What i normally do is use the ACL race bearings from the older 4g63 cranks which are ~2,5mm wider and then file the little tongues on them to seat properly. The extra support plays a role in managing 900hp. It does take some engineering though as you don’t want the bearings to float from not being seated tight, but they fit fine and don’t touch on the crank if done properly.

My comets are based on what I build and tune all the time, not speculation or Google write-ups
.
