I really dont pay much mind to too many noises so I never payed it any mind. Except this past Sunday I was street tuning with jack of trades and when he heard my car idling he was like whats that noise.

Its sounds like you can hear every revolution the motor makes. I myself have always noticed it but it has never changed or gotten worse. I dont know how to really explain it. I do have a ACT clutch and ACT flywheel. The clutch has been mint since it was installed along with no adjusting. I do also have a full AMS SS clutch line.

Just trying to get this cleared up because he think it could be a cause of some phantom knock. I think its the lightened flywheel. But I could be wrong.

Might be the throwout bearing. They normally don't whine though.

I have had two VIII's and they have both done the same, but i havent ever had a problem come out of it. I suppose it is somewhat normal, but i except someone to come in here and tell me otherwise. I dont know but good luck.

What throw out bearing did you use? If used the ACT that might be the problem.. Unless you broke part of the clutch and your hearing it rattle like change in a can.

nah oem tob. and the car and clutch run strong. no problems since i started driving it again which has been for about 5-6k miles after two years of not driving. Plus the whole ride west to Ohio for the shoot out, dyno pulls there and back home, and running it down the track.

Thats normal! It is because the Evo VIII (not sure about IX's) have a "straight cut" 1st gear. Just like reverse it will make a humming, whining noise.

ACT bearing = OEM bearing. They are the same.

To the OP the noise is normal and has been discussed on here before, it's called torsional vibration. The noise is from the transmission and was always there but dampened by the weight of the stock flywheel. After installing the lighter flywheel the noise becomes louder.

what he said. There is probably nothing wrong iwth your car. !st and second gear have "straighter" cut gears.

None of the gears in a evo transmission are straight cut.

The sound is something called "transmission error" it loosely translates into the oscillation effect caused by the tooth profile on the gear at different speeds and pressures. These oscillations are caused by the imperfections in the gears when they are machined, we are talking about differences well below 0.001 inches so very small.

Manufacturers typically will spend money on tooth profiles to minimize this gear noise for specific gear speeds and loads, ie cruising or normal driving. If you wish to hear a gear that manufacturers do not spend money on put the car into reverse and get up to a steady speed .

Anyways i don't want to bore you guys with details

so if you're saying that the reverse gear is not straight cut, i'd like to hear you outwardly say that. from my knowledge, the first gear is straight cut but i know for a fact that the reverse is straight cut

hmm so what am i supposed to call it ? because of the lightened flywheel I can hear more of manufacturers flaw in the gear ?
