I just talked to a distributor for Tomei.

The ARMS turbo for the Evo has not even reached a final design as of yet, and thus there is not any hard data on the turbo.

Historically ARMS turbos have proprietary housings cast specifically for Tomei and also are ball bearing cartridge.

possibility of a bolt on ball bearing turbo is pretty tempting! O.O

It's obviously going to be quite a while before this thing ever ships if the design isn't finalized yet though.

Oh well, plenty to choose from in the meantime...FP's stuff is always proven and I noticed CBRD have FINALLY put their BBK turbo up on their website (sans prices though - come on guys ship it already!!) hahaha

I kind of wonder why FP et. al. don't offer ball brearing verions of the White, Green and Red etc. even as an option. Is it totally a price issue I wonder or are the performance/reliability benefits just not worth it? Or are the stock based turbos just too hard to convert to ball bearing setup?

Just curious...because if the Tomei is competitive on price and performance then they might possibly have an edge if they came as ball bearing turbos.

Well....the cost/benefit doesn't make sense for a BB Green or Red.....you'd see what a couple hundred RPM of spool for like 1K extra? No thanks..

I laughed cause man aint this the truth Good Stuff

There is a company in the UK producing BB 20G9LTs. IIRC it was about a $1k upgrade over the normal Green... for the blokes over there.

Turbo Dynamics out of the U.K. make a dual BB FP green. 2,000 pounds though, whatever that works itself out to be...

52mm induce, 68mm exducer on the compressor side.

Sounds close in spec to a green. Won't be any where near a red though.

ARMS-M7960
FOR MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION 4-9 (4G63 ENGINE)

The All New Tomei ARMS-M7960 Turbo Charger.
The largest bolton turbo for the
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 4-9.

With amazing response and over 400HP potential,
our all new Bolt On Turbo will deliver all the torque
you need for your street performance car.

MSRP$1,780.00 (USD)
Part Number 173017

ARMS-M7960 BOLT ON TURBO
FOR 4G63 EVO 4-9
INFORMATION

ARMS-M7960 DEVELOPMENT

DEVELOPMENT THEME
・ Easy Bolt on Upgrade and designed for the stock 4G63 setup.
・ Exceeds all EVO 4-9 turbines
・ Improved response throughout the entire area
・ Amazing performance without sacrificing daily drivability
・ With an Power Output potential of over 400 HP
・ Tested for long term durability
・ Circuit Performance design (for long straights & acceleration)

SMOOTH FLAT PRIMARY EXHAUST PRESSURE OVER THE ENTIRE POWER RANGE.
With a smooth power delivery from low in the power band all the way up. Smooth drivability can be maintained without compromising performance.

STOCK LIKE RESPONSE
Larger turbos usually loose out on response, but our M7960 design was designed for all round performance gain aspects. More Power & Best all round response. With extensive R&D with various turbine wheel designs and sizes after many months this is the results of our extensive research.

IMPROVEMENT GAINS WITH THE STOCK DISPLACEMENT
With various restriction possibilities we found that this turbine size is an overall best improvement from the other stock turbines that Mitsubishi had designed. We also tried to keep the same stock like characteristics that the general end users enjoyed when they 1st got their EVO.

MAINTAINS BOOST EVEN AT HIGH ENGINE SPEEDS
The research results shows the stock setup looses boost pressure from 6000RPM and not suitable for high end RPM. Our design maintains boost levels way beyond that and leaves more room for extra improvements for more options for the end user.

COMPLETE BOLT ON APPLICATION
This turbine kit is supplied as a complete upgrade kit from the stock turbine. All the required gaskets, piping and nuts and bolts for fitting are included to save your time from sourcing the little parts to complete the installation.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thorough various prototypes and with various stock products we have exhausted all types of comparison tests.

Extreme testing has been done to push our turbines design to the limits during the durability testing phases.

STOCK MITSUBISHI EVO 9 TURBO TEST
TESTS WITH 1.3 & 1.6 BOOST LEVELS WITH THE SAME TURBO.

CONCLUSION
We found that the 1.6 boost level was the turbo’s limit with the temperatures it generates at 6000 RPM which was the designs limitations.

TOMEI ARMS-M7960 TEST - 1
COMPARISSIONS ON THE MITSUBISHI EVO 9 TURBO ON THE 2.0L ENGINE

CONCLUSION
The response and torque are not restricted and this design exceeds the stock EVO 9 turbo in every performance aspect with a possible power output of over 400HP.

TOMEI ARMS-M7960 TEST - 2
COMPARISSON WITH THE STOCK EVO 9 TURBINE WITH THE TOMEI 2.3L KIT

CONCLUSION
This Dyno graph results shows that the combined setup with the M7960 and the 2.3L displacement will deliver the optimum performance results to suit the 4G63 user.

This thing wil F***G rock. I don't care what anyone here says about it. I am getting one and thats that. If it beats out the red or not who cares, but I will have a turbo that I can use around town, on the highways and on the track without haveing to use race gas and all that non-sense. With the red you have to wait untill that sucker spools by then the race is over, so I made up my mind and I am going with the ARMS.
