Question R&R Knock Sensor?

Anyone have any tips for getting to the knock sensor? I want to check mine to see if it is loose. I want to rule this out as a cause of my random knock issues.

Any help appreciated.

Yeah I know that it is a difficult spot. I really was hoping someone has done this before and had some tips. I really don't want to have to follow all the steps listed in the factory manual (basically pulling the intake manifold).

Is the knock sensor located in the same position as the regular lancers? Im assuming so which means it is right underneath the IM on the back of the block. I just took mines out so your in luck....
Well you gotta be under the car to get to it so looking up at the intake mani you should see the sensor. Looks like a giant bolt with a wire coming out of it. The Steering rack is kinda in the way but you can get your arms thru in between the block and the rack. Spray it down with some PB blaster and let it sit for bout 5 minutes. Then grab a small crescent wrench and break that bad boy loose. came off like nothing after i let it sit with the pb blaster... make sure you unplug it first before you try to twist the sensor around cuz youll rip the wires out.... well good luck!

I know this thread is a little old but, I wanted to post this just in case anyone needs it. What I did was take off the front tower brace, then stuck my arm underneath the two heater hoses and over the shifter cables, aim for the number four cylinder. It's a 25mm socket but, you have to either get a deep socket or take the connector off (phillips head). If the sensor is bad it will usually read 8-9 counts of knock all the time.
