OK starting to save my pennies for a Red now. This and Nils' threads have me sold. Great reviews and responses, thanks!

If you mean open air filter, (cone) it depends what type of racing you do. For road course heat is a huge issue, so i am sticking with the factory box as long as i can, and when forced to change, then i will hand fab a cold air box to surround the cone. heat= bad. It is amazing what 25 minutes of full throttle will do to an engine bay.

I meant I want to run stock power levels as long as possible. Don't want to start the quest for more useable hp till I really utilize the vehicle in stock form first.

good idea but you'll think that the stock airboc will provide about the same amout of air as a custom box. but i guess you can always run a hose from the bottom bumper vent to the box.

tnt: Were you running 93 0ctane and 23 PSI on the road course? Does the Red take until 4000 RPM to get to 23 PSI?

I wonder IF it will ever get S2's installed

My hacked airbox flows much more air than stock. If I build a custom one it will use 2 inlets to flow maximum air to an enclosed cone filter. Ill have lots of pics if I go that route.

Sparky,

Honestly I would have to watch video, I just know any time I hit the skinny pedal the car was at or near full boost. Under 4k for 23psi Im sure. just cruising in 5th on highway the car will hit 20+ in the low 3k's..

I am just thinking that TNT's 93 octane race tune(a non sequitur) is a very safe tune, due to the high ambients and long periods at peak held boost. The Red is probably way below its efficiency range at 23#.

I just wonder how he would have stacked up against the RX-7 with the Red at 26-28# with a set of more radical cams(S2's) and a larger intercooler(assumming he is presently on the stock IC, and the stock cams).

I am not hating. I just want to see the kid beatup on everyone out there. Still, if he is holding his own on a mild tune, pump gas, stock cams & IC....then, more power to him!

i have a very safe tune (i pulled 3* timing sat morning from 6k+ due to knock) . I have ets 3.5" fmic with licp. and steve in the blue rx7 and my car are about the same speed down the straits. the great news is we are back at msr for our clinic in a couple weeks. hopefully that means cams and ss o2 housing on the evo for me.

holding my own hrmm. fastest car out there (blue rx7) lap time 2:21. my fastest lap 2:24.5... Im doin ok for full street car with interior wife next to me in car ect. ( 997 GT3 RS ran 2:25's this weekend for reference)
