Catback size

I have a stock Evo 9 MR. I want to get a catback.
I read a ton of posts regarding exhausts, but I haven't found an answer to this question:
Can a 3" catback bolt on to the stock catalytic converter (since the cat pipe is smaller 2.5" I think). Has anyone tried it? If yes, what brand was the catback and where did you buy it?
I don't want to get a TBE right now, just the catback, maybe in a year or 2.

i dont think the 3" can bolt up. I have the Megan high flow for daily, and change it to a test pipe when i hit the track.

Most cat backs tapers down to the cat 2.5 like Tanabe, rsr, greddy. These unit s are great for street driving. But if you ***** out power the catback w/ full 3" ie Greddy TI, perrin, bushur to name a few. It will still fit on your stock cat but may look iffy when bolted together.
Once you decide which catback to get, call the vendor to double check fitment.
Good luck
