Evo VIII Oil Press Guage Install
Evo VIII Oil Press Guage Install
Newbie mechanic trying to install the oil pressure guage sensor/sender. There are two hex screws in the oil housing near the fliter. It was recommended that I take out one of the two screws and replace it with a 3/8" to 1/8". The sender is then screwed into the reducer. Problem is the 3/8" male reducer thread does not seem to match the female threads once the screw plug is taken out. Should I even me talking inches here for a metric car????
Did you mean the 1/8" reducer doesn't seem to fit the threads once the plug is removed?
If that's the case, your problem lies with the fact that pipe thread comes in two different thread pitches. One has 25 threads per inch and one has 24. They will not interchange! One is BSPT (Brittish Standard Pipe Thread) and one is NPT (National Pipe Thread.) You need the adapter I have in my basement and never intend to use. PM me if you want it. It's brand new. Never installed my Oil P gauge in my VIII. Don't intend to do one my X either. It's made directly for your purpose and works great.

well i would be careful with installing Oil Pressure sensor next to the oil filter. The Oil pressure sensor that is sold by 42draftdesign is little bulky and heavy. You have to combine 2 adapters in order to move the sensor away from the oil filter. THe adapters will create L shape facing about 8-9 Oclock direction, at the end of which you will attach heavy oil pressure sensor.
Combination of heat, vibration and gravity will eventually cause the whole thing getting loose and you will start spitting oil under full throttle.
thats what happened to me. Few hard days at Mid-Ohio, and full day racing at very bumpy Pocono South course, they whole adapter that holds the sensor, got loose, and I was dripping oil by the end of the track day.
In my opinion, the L shaped adapters were main cause of the problem. If the adapter was facing straight away from the oil filter I don't think this would happen.
