Exedy Triple Carbon went out on me...

Hey guys,

I had an Exedy Triple Carbon installed at AMS on December of 06, it was working up until last week...the clutch has a total of 20,000 miles on it. I took the car down to the Evo vs WRX shootout at Englishtown this past weekend, and on the way back I noticed the clutch started slipping after some heavy traffic in new york. I figured I could just let it rest and try it out the next day.

Now the clutch grabs fine under low RPMs and whenever I'm not hitting on it...but whenever I try to hit on it or when the turbo starts to spool and the car starts to pull the clutch slips and the RPMs fly right up...it does that in every gear.

When I bought this clutch AMS told me it could be rebuilt if I ever had any problems with it..does anyone know how much it would cost to get it rebuilt and where I could get it done?

Thanks!

I had/have an exedy twin carbon (boxed up atm). It went about 25k before it started slipping. It can be rebuilt. you'll probably just need to resurface the flywheel and intermediate plates, its cheap and any transmission shop should be able to do it. you'll also need to replace the the discs and should be able to get them through any exedy dealer; they do cost about $500 each though, so $1500 there. I opted not to rebuild mine at this time because I feel that not having carbon faced flywheel and intermediate plates makes it a poor choice for a street car. If you need that kind of holding power and are gonna DD I'd look at a carbon/carbon unit like tilton if you can afford it.

A carbon clutch used in drag racing is going to wear not matter which manufacturer. In most cases new carbon disks will get you going again.

20,000 miles is not bad IMHO considering the use it has had

I would love to use the Triple Exedy, but I just don't have the money for that. Most people would agree.

Hey Al, I don't know what shop you're working with now but whichever one it is...do you think they could rebuild my clutch for me?
