new twin plate clutch slipping on launch
new twin plate clutch slipping on launch
I just had my 6 speed trans go so I got a shepard 5 speed conversion.
With that I had a hks twin plate clutch installed. I broke in the clutch with 1000k before getting on it. the clutch seems fine. its fine at wot going through the gears. fine at low rpm's in 5th to redline. the problem is when I launch it the damn thing slips after it grabs a bit. I get a bit of wheel chirp and then it lets go. The clutch is rated at 600 pound feet and I only have 417flbs at the wheels and 400hp. I called every shop that i can think of like ams, busher, works, dynoflash al and a couple others. they all say they havent a clue. I was also told by one of the more known shops that even if the clutch was installed wrong it would not slip. After tons of searching and no answers the only thing i can come up with is the restricter pill. i have not removed it. Although I had a exedy twin hd before this with the same amount of power and it launched fine with the pill in. in fact i could do a awd burnout without even trying. Please help. I trying to avoid a teardown. It already cost me over $6k just for the trans and clutch with install. Also i called shepard and he said it does not sound like the tc or diff. And i had the shop who did the work put it on the lift and they looked over everything and it was ok. the awd system worked fine. they turned the wheels and they all worked as they should.

I've tried launching a few times a couple hundred miles apart. wouldnt the oil be burned off by now. it just keeps on slipping every time but holds strong in the gears under w.o.t.
Try removing the restrictor. Keep in mind that the effects of removing the restrictor are going to differently from one clutch to another. It restricts the flow of hydraulic fluid, and the rate at which one clutch engages in relation to the fluid flow is different from another.
