Red fluid in my airbox????

When I went in for my tune a little while back, we noticed there was oil and such in my air box which was probably from my oiled up K&N drop in filter.... Well I just opened it up again and noticed there was the slightest bit of fluid on the bottom of the box. Not a ton but maybe a slight dampness of red fluid. What the crap is it?? I also Notice a bit of fluid underneath my hood. seems like something might of been spraying. My car runs fine other but i just thought I'd check these things while it's still early.

Thanks!!!
jeff

K & N filters get a red oil which traps the dirt

With too much oil they can coat your intake box and maf with it and lead to maf failure

I like to spray them off with an air hose to cut down on the excessive oiling that they come with

As for what is under your hood - do you have a VTA BOV ?

sounds like an over oiled K&N... way too common - because they come over-oiled, and its easy to over do it yourself. the best way like Al said is to spray most of the oil off with some air before you install it.

I have a crushed MR bov. I actually notice the stuff spraying over by where the cam gears are. I have no clue where its coming from though because the only place it seems to splatter is onto my hood. Ive looked up and down that whollleee side of my engine bay for signs of an spraying.

My filter is very oily. I'll take your advice and do just that. thanks!

Could be a leaky power steering pump....

I would rather spend the extra money on getting a new filter rather than re-oiling them.

This would be my guess if your seeing redish oil on that side of the engine bay. Or it was overfilled
