The Evo rear diff is not the strongest diff in the world. The pinion shaft is the weak link. When you mix high HP with lots of traction, the end result may be a broken diff.

AMS has a bolt in upgrade for the rear diff using another much stronger Mitsubishi unit. The price is $3100.00 so it is not for everyone. It comes with the diff, billet CNC mounting brackets and DSS Stg 5 axles. We run this rear diff in our Evo 8 which is the quickest Evo 8 in the world

When you get into the 9 second area is when you will begin breaking rear diffs. After that comes the transfer case.
