2.0L, Cosworth head, stock turbo, cams

Anyone running this particular combo or something similar. I am most concerned with the stock turbo.

I have an AMS 2.0L SB, Cosworth Head, Jun 264 cams and at the moment stock turbo. I plan on using the AEM EMS (already have it installed previously)

Some of you may be following my build thread and know this is the combo at the moment I am putting together.

My concern now is that the head and cam combo will be to much for the stock turbo.

Supporting mods

780cc inj
Fidanza gears
walbro 255LPH
JIC DP and CB
Cat delete

I never planned for the large head. It just happened. Any input on possible issues would be greatly appreciated.

I personally don't see any issues with your setup. Of course you won't be benefitting from your built block since the stock block can handle the power the stock turbo generates... The Cosworth head will optimize air flow and thus help the stock turbo produce more power. You might want to try the cossy cams since they were designed for their head... going with the bigger cosworth head and consequently bigger valves will make you lose some torque down low i'm afraid.

Good luck

looks like a pretty good setup to me. if you wanted more top end at the sacrifice of some low end then you would consider a cam like s2, jun 272, tx272 etc. the stock turbo has been shown to make top end gains with these larger cams. however, i think you'll be quite happy with that setup as the ported head should always give you more power from the same cam.

I would prefer a stock IX turbo to a stock VIII turbo in your particular case. Actually, if you want to maintain quick spoolup while at the same time taking advantage of the higher flowing Cosworth ports, I´d try the FP White, or alternately the CBRD BBK with the turbine upgrade. Like the others mentioned above, a higher lift cam might be in order, such as, Revolvers, M2´s, S2´s, or FP4R´s, or even the BR BF 272´s with the AEM EMS.

I am trying to maintain quick spool which is why I went with the JUN 264's. Those are some pretty aggressive cams to begin with as far as lobe profile.

funny how once someone says stock turbo i only think ix turbo. i agree here. if you could pick up one of these used ix turbos on the forum for $300, it's a worthy upgrade. if you outgrow the standard ix turbo later you can always send it in to fp for a white, green, red, pink or any other color conversion that might exist then.

I'm currently running something similar.
Built 2.0, ported head, kelford 272s, exhaust, intake, bigger intercooler, stock turbo.
With the cams degreed for minimal overlap I'm hitting full boost around 3300rpm with the 03 turbo. Peak torque is around 4000, but that may be my tuning as I see a lot of false knock and I don't have the knock filters dialed in properly. The part that will get you is the top end. My turbo falls on its *** after ~6000. It will drop from 20psi down to like 16psi. My peak hp and tq is where it should be though.

After I get through emissions I'll degree the cams to take advantage of the little turbo and see what it will do at higher boost levels.
