14MM Hex on mivec Intake cam (2)

out of curiosity, what does the 14mm Internal allen wrench style Hex nut on the end of intake cam do/hold on the Mivec cam?

just did timing belt today, and was curious as it loosened up while positioning cams, we tightened it back down, but was unsure what it did. not much torque on it or anything. it lives right on the end of the VVT actuator or whatever you call it.

thanks if you know.

Its engine oil that gets pumped through so if the plug is removed and it drains out no big deal.

Wow, I didnt know that. thats cool. i just looked at a couple vids on the internet showing how that works. I was using it to try and rotate the cam back to the marks as the both turned in slightly. lets just say that little plug couldnt hold the valve spring pressure. and was suprised to say the least. hehe.

thanks again.

HAHA yeah definitely don't use that to rotate the camshaft! If needed, remove that hex plug and use the 14mm (I think) cam gear bolt. Just be careful to make sure you're securely on the cam gear bolt as it can't be seen and my friend accidentally stripped his since he wasn't on it straight.
