Issue with blown tubo * i need your help*

This past weekend driving through brooklyn ny on a saturday night i experienced a very high spike in boost. Right after that excessive white smoke is coming out the exhaust. Sunday morning i managed to wake my friend who's my mechanic to check it out and he told me it's a blown turbo and what my options are. Now on the car i have a 60-1 turbo which i can repair , but on the other note for a little more money i can get a gt30r... What would u do?

I would check the motor for any blowby or boost leaks. If it is the Turbo you can get a Garrett Journal Bearing 60-1 Turbo for like $720bucks.

If you can find a Used 30R or something that can fit your Manifold and Downpipe then go for it also if its less money. If money isnt an Issue just order a HTA series Turbo that will match up weither its T3 or T4 with a 5Bolt or 4bot exhaust housing.

Interesting--white smoke is usually an indication of a blownhead gasket (white smoke being water)...and with the boost spike they would coincide with eachother. Have you thought thru a second opinion.

yeah white smoke is a big indicator of a blow head gasket - if the turbo overboosted how much did it boost too and if you have head studs - if your still on stock head bolts you might have lifted the head and blow the gasket

Get a compression test and a leak down test to better help you pin point the problem. I hope it's something less expesive than getting a new Snail. GL my Dude

I agree with the guys above and do a compression test or leak down. The stock head bolts are stronger than most people think. If the motor is tuned correctly they will hold up well. My FP turbos have been leaned on for many years with pump gas/Alky mix. No issues! Detonate the motor and you will pay the price no matter what is holding the head on.

I'd like to add if the head gasket is replaced its time to go with the ARP studs.
Good Luck!

If you have the money, a bit more turbo won't hurt.
