Help with fuel door release

My fuel door release no longer works. When I pull the fuel door release from inside the car I can hear the mechanism but the door doesn't pop open. I have no idea what happened. Any advise would be appreciated.

The spring inside the fuel door doesn't seem to be the problem. The pin that holds the fuel door latch closed doesn't seem to retract all the way when the fuel door release is engaged from inside the car. Can this be adjusted? Thanks
