i live in chicago. did some more research and it looks like it is the fuel pump assembly that needs to be replaced.

Something like this happened to me once when I was doing a pump install on another Evo....look very carefully at the way the pump assembly has been put together, I remember there was some kind of black rubber o ring that got **** eyed and caused all the fuel to get dumped back into the tank. Good luck.

i took it all apart last night and did the install all over again. so nothing is stuck in there. looks like i have to order the fuel pump assembly now, b/c the fuel filter (not the sock at the bottom of the pump) inside the fp assembly seems to be clogged.

It would take a lot of crap to clog the filter in the sending unit. How much junk is on the fuel sock? How much junk in the tank?

tank is clean (area where the fp sits) and ordered a whole new install kit on for the pump so the sock is clean. still no delivery. i ordered a new fp assembly on monday so i have to wait for that to arrive to see if that will fix it.
