Wierd Drivetrain Sound

ok guys ive had my evo for 1 month and recently i got this weird "metal rubbing" sound when its rolling in neutral over 20 mph. not too sure if its the t/c because it dosent whine when im stepping on the gas it actually shuts up when im adding gas. lets say 50 mph i throw it in neutral and let it roll it will make the noise or if i dont step on the gas but its still in gear it will still make the noise.

and btw im new here

Doesn't sound like your typical tcase whine but its definately a gear noise. I'm guessing its the transmission but I would take it to a shop to be sure.

Often at times the car will drive fine with a strange noise and its not until it affects driveability that people find out its a bigger issue.

That sounds like the noise my car makes on decel.

Been trying to figure it out for a while now you can search my thread about it and also the other thread going around about t-case noises.

What kinda clutch you running as many have said that it's due to having an aftermarket (usually solid hub twin disc) clutch in there but i had the noise even with a sprung ACT clutch.

The car drives fine but the noise is quite annoying during normal city driving and def. did not have that sound before.

We have a car in the shop w/ the exact same clutch as i have (QM twin) and his car does not have the same noise as his is running a Shep TC.

My trans feels fine and has held over 550+ hp and 430+ tq w/ shifts at over 8500 rpm so i'm thinking it's not the trans but more likely the TC

Please let us know what you find out.....

my car makes that noise when i let off the gas over 40mph... it sounds like a really bad grind from the transmission but my car seems to drive fine and the noise goes away when i hit the gas... WOT is fine, the cluctch holds, and theres no grind between shifts, its only when i let off from regular driving... weird... anyone else have this problem?

Drain the tranny first i would make sure the fluid level is correct, remember on our cars any little bit of fluid missing on the TC or the tranny is a big deal, specially the tranny where the 5th gear is the highest in the case and is the last one to get oil.

when you drain of course check for excess metal, and put some AMSOIL MTG GL4 synthetic

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but this is the only post I've found with the same exact problem I'm having. Did you ever get this fixed? thanks

Defiantly start with draining and checking all fluids.
